Threatening to rain at Monaco right now with the race set to start in 12 minutes. Could make for some chaos.

EDIT: Start procedure officially suspended due to "change in climatic conditions", allowing some changes not normally allowed. Formation lap to start in 9 minutes at X:09.

 

Now the formation lap will be behind the safety car, which automatically forces full wet tyres for all cars at the start, but it's not full wet tyre weather.

EDIT: Now it is that weather, with rain pouring down. CHAOS!

EDIT 2: Two formation laps behind the safety car and then a red flag. Pretty nasty rain cell over the track.

 

10 minutes to the restart.

 

Oh my. Mick Schumacher's car broke in half. Literally.

 

Sucks to be Charles Leclerc right now.

 

Well that was an interesting race!

 

I'm not a very happy camper right now. Binotto really needs to start looking for a proper race strategist. If Carlos listened to them and pitted for Inters he would have been 4th most likely. Thankfully he didn't listen. Also, making Charles pit only to tell him not to at the last minute is embarrassing. He ends up stacking and losing his spot. He's been a blunder since he took over for Arrivabene. FFS. I knew it was going to be messed up when the rain hit. BTW Ferrari are protesting Max for crossing the PIT exit line too soon. Won't erase the pit wall's mistakes.

 

Protests rejected. According to stewards' documents, Ferrari conceded that it was Verstappen in question and not Perez (there was confusion because race control messages during the race indicated Perez by mistake). Stewards then ruled that the sporting regulations, which require that a driver "must not cross" the line, supersede the race director's notes, which said that drivers must "stay to the right" of the line. They then defined "crossing" the line as a "full wheel" over the line, and then found that Verstappen only put part of his wheel over the line, and therefore did not violate the rule.

 

So it's a variation on the idiotic "athletes should just shut up and dribble, shoot, etc." idea... in this case, drive. Uggh.

 

Leclerc on pole again tomorrow.

 

And both Ferraris are now out of the race. This is looking like it’s going to be a 1, 2 win for Red Bull.

 

We have a wet qualifying session. Perez crashed out in Q2, bringing out a red flag to fix the barriers. Q3 coming up in a few minutes, with the rain stopped and the track drying out but still with some puddles. Everyone was faster every lap in Q2 after the red flag and so Q3 will likely go down to the wire.
