    Hey,

I'm desperately trying to get something already edited in Final Cut to go into Adobe Premiere. Research has led me only to the knowledge that FC's exported XML files can in turn be imported into Premiere using a $450 plugin Pro Import PPro and, well, you have your transfer. But I don't have $450 in my pocket right now, nor see any merit in spending that much money ontop of all the money spent on editing software in the first place just to do one overnight project.

Does anyone else know any alternative to getting my hard work into Premiere?

Well, I don't know if it's what you're going for, but you could always render out what you have done in the Final Cut project file and import that as a new clip into a fresh Premiere Pro project.

Alternatively... you could try and find a Macintosh to work on to use Final Cut like you have been doing. Hopefully someone else has a better solution for you!

I agree....make it a full quality .mov file out of final cut. Open it in Adobe Premiere and do whatever you need to do with it there, then bring it back into Final Cut the same way.

All but the complex 12 minute sequence is in Premiere, and we want the premiere project to have absolute control over every single clip in the shots. I suppose we can fine tune our editing, but that would take time we don't really have tonight.

have you tried exporting an EDL from FCP instead of XML?

the fact that Premiere can't import something as standard as an XML file speaks volumes if it's silliness.

My suggestion would be to stick to FCP as much as you can, but i assume thats not possible.

    Seconded.

I assume this is the plug-in you're talking about - just for the record I'm not personally aware of any others like it so you may need to just fine-tune it in FCP and export uncompressed unless the EDL format will work. :)

    Hope that helps!

wow that's sad... and EDL is the most basic file an edit can exist in, i cannot beleive that Premiere won't import it.

There are many formats of EDL that FCP can import, check out the literature for Premiere and see if maybe a particular type would work.

I don't even see EDL as an export option from Premiere. Can someone say frustrating?

All my searches reveal that Premiere should be able to grab the edl regardless. What the heck is up?

I hope you meant Import. Have you tried simply dropping the .edl file into a Premiere bin (do they call them bins?)?

yep, and i simply got the notice that the file was not readable upon import. Still no luck. We may have to recreate the whole sequence shot by shot, frame by frame, in premiere. Damn that will suck.

What version of Premiere are you using? It sounds like you are using Premiere Pro 1.0. For some strange reason they dropped EDL support for another called AAF. In version 1.5 they re-added EDL support, something that it always had before in all other versions. I am an avid Premiere Pro user, but that was just stupid to drop EDL support for one version, a new PRO version at that.

If you are on Pro 1.0 and you own it, you can stil upgrade to 1.5 for $99.00 I think still.

    Hope this helped ya...
