They do indeed. The male lead of my book series is Irish. He's from a different part, but still. Really makes me miss Dublin.

And Benedict Cumberbatch narrating anything is never a bad thing.

Got all of my taxes done for the year, thanks to the volunteer tax prep service at my local library. Getting $450 back from federal, state, and school district combined. That money will be used to buy a new mattress and boxspring for me, as the set I'm sleeping on now, at age 30, is the same mattress and boxspring I was using when I graduated from the baby crib to a big boy bed a long, long time ago. So it's over 25 years old, and it shows: sagging all over the place, springs poking through the mattress in a couple of places, highly uncomfortable, and the wooden frame of the boxspring is broken in multiple places from years of abuse and sways back and forth from side to side every time I move on the bed (though it doesn't appear to be at risk of collapsing yet). I'm looking at a low-end mattress and boxspring set from the Original Mattress Factory; it would cost me around $350, including sales tax, delivery charge, and the charge to haul away the old mattress (which is charged for because Ohio law considers a used mattress to be hazardous waste, even if it's only one day old, due to the risk of bedbugs, so special disposal procedures are required).

The other day I was at the dollar store for tissues, and ended up also getting a six inch Han Solo. For $6.25 I just couldn't not.

I applaud your adult decisions jcgoble3 . I got my current bed by being really sarcastic, so you are ahead of me in the adulting world.

ALSO! BIG NEWS! I got a conditional offer from the University of Leicester! Basically, all I have to do is graduate before September and keep my GPA around what it is at, and I'll be into the Museum Studies program in October!!!!!! So excited.

ALSO! I'm getting another kitty tomorrow! I've been thinking about it for weeks and my mom's neighbor who runs one of the shelters here has kept a kitten on reserve for me. She's ready to be adopted so I got to meet her today. She is so adorable - she's black but has white paws and a white chin. I'm going to get her tomorrow

Excellent news, Briannakin! Good for you!

So we had a blizzard today. No school today, no school tomorrow as we dig out. We got about 12-15 inches. Tomorrow morning I will play my favorite snowday game: how many cats can I fit on the bed while I sleep in.

    That's great Briannakin! Congrats =D=

Cat-talk time! I'm fairly pissed off at my cats right now. It's the mating season for them, so they spend the night serenading each other with a fair few (very loud) brawls too -- and I, like the rest of the neighbourhood, don't get the sleep I need. BUT I have this absolute cutie that was born last fall, and she's waiting for me just behind the door every morning when I go down stairs to feed them and she's the most cuddly kitten evah [face_love]

Congrats Briannakin !!! You'll like Leicester. I went to Nottingham but used to see friends a lot down there. Festival of Light (Divali) is good if you like something different. I just found it difficult to drive round the centre - so pick your housing carefully.

Cowgirl Jedi 1701 If it was in a dollar store shouldn't it have been... 1$?

Thanks Kurisan , but I'm taking the distance learning program. I just don't have the means to live outside of Canada for two years.

Also, crazy day. I have an appointment at the hospital and I'm supposed to be picking up my new kitten today. OH and we are in the middle of a blizzard. We are supposed to get up to 60 cms, but we have already gotten around 20. Now this is winter.

I remember two years ago where there was so much snow that the snow crews in a city with an airport had to find a new snow dump because the area that they usually use is really close to the airport and was getting high enough to potentially cause problems with air traffic (it even made the Evening News).

And because I have forgotten: congratulations Briannakin! I know of a young woman who went to school in London as part of an exchange program or study program and as an American had some difficulty with trains and living in a large city since she is from a small village (I asked her how people reacted when she answered their questions of where she was from a place that was just a small blip on the State Map and she said they were surprised).

Yaay! Congrats Bri!!! I'm so happy for you!! [face_party]
(Also, yay for new kitten! We'll need pics, of course!)

We had less snow than they predicted yesterday, we only got about 10 inches, but it was enough that I had to wear snow boots with my dress to theater last night. It was quite the strange look, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Dollar stores that actually sell most of their stuff for a dollar are rare. You can't get nuthin' for a dollar anymore. And anyway, it would have been at least twice as much at Walmart.

    Congrats Briannakin! :)

Today I finally finished lost Stars and I really enjoyed reading it, although the ending is a little frustrating. Is there a continuation to this story?
I´ve also started to read my second new Eu book, Lords of the Sith. :emperor:

Not that I've seen, Anedon. I liked that one, too!

Congratulations and congratulations! You were really hoping to get into that program. I looked at the curriculum online; seems very strong. Will you be able to find some sort of museum internship in your area? I think that will help a lot, if you want to get into the field.
Ha! More like, will the cats deign to let you into THEIR bed and will they let you sleep in? Mine will let me go until 7:30 IF and only IF I let him sleep with me. At 7:30, that's it. It is time for breakfast and nothing I say will convince him otherwise. I usually get up, feed him & go back to bed. He's good with that.

Audition the new mattress, jcgoble3. I had to get one a few years ago, because our apt. building had the bedbugs!! What a nightmare! Took forever to get rid of them & had to get a new mattress and wash every single thing I owned. Spent several weekends in stores, rolling around on the display versions. I like the one I ended up with, though. I need to do the taxes, too...have been putting it off. I think I've got all the necessary forms, so I really have no excuse, apart from math-phobia.

Didn't get much writing done this week; still fighting off the sinus thing. I did go out to a geek-themed trivia night on Wednesday, that was fun! And HARD! Questions about zombies, Halo, Supernatural, D&D, Star Trek... Our team came in about middle of the pack, but it was a lot of fun. They do it every few months; will have to go again.

Just replying to the stuff on page 285, because busy.

    Briannakin - Congratulations, that's great news. :D

Sith-I-5 - I recommend those special gloves for smartphones. You won't be able to be super-precise if your phone has a small screen, but they're still quite handy.

Chyntuck and Briannakin - Kitty pics, please?

jcgoble3 - Wise decision. I need to do the same. My bed cannot be separated from its mattress because it's as old as this apartment and grandma and grandpa's marriage. Made in 1938. And everybody in this family slept in it at some point.

Around here we have Dollar Tree stores, at which literally everything in the store is $1 (plus sales tax, because 'Merica :p). They seem to be the only dollar stores that still do that. We also have Dollar General and Family Dollar in this area, both of which are just general discount stores for cheap merchandise with varying prices.

As Ewok Poet suggests, pick up a pair of touchscreen-friendly gloves. I got a simple pair of knit gloves with touch-sensitive fingertips at Walmart for $3 a couple weeks ago. They're not warm enough for super-cold temperatures (approaching zero Fahrenheit), but for temperatures just a little below freezing like we've had recently, they work great.

That's called a "stylus". ;) And yes, that's a good solution as well (and more precise on small screens), but it means finding a way to carry the stylus around. If you wear a shirt with breast pocket(s), it's easy to clip one in your pocket like you would a pen, but if you don't, like me, then you have to find a different way to carry it.

I wish they would sell the miniature alone, I would love to have it on my desk. :)
I´ve also had tow self created miniatures of Jacen and Jaina but I fear they got lost when I moved into my flat.

I know! I wanted LEGO Wedge and Janson, but I would have had to buy the entire Hoth set for it. Don't have enough space for it in my tiny apt, and don't want to spend $250 for 2 figs, so... I'll keep my eyes out at conventions; sometimes you can pick up the individual ones there...

Sorry guys. I will get caught up on everything, but in the debate between fanfic and kittens, kittens will always win.

    Everyone, meet Lucy Maud!

    Awwww Briannakin [face_love]

Anedon Unfortunately, there's no sequel to Lost Stars so far, which is a shame because it's such a nice book. There's some great fanfic on the boards, though :)

Sith-I-5 I second the recommendation for the fancy gloves. Like Mistress_Renata I love my stylus (my old phone and my tablet even have a compartment to store it) but it's not so practical when you're in the street.
