Watching someone open the gift you get them is half the fun. I always open gifts people give me in front of them (when I can). I got my brother a pair of TARDIS footie pajamas for Christmas and I can't wait for him to open them.

On the topic of people I don't get: I've agreed to this stupid 50th anniversary for the step-grandparents, mostly because I can back out at the last minute if I need to (*looks at to-do list for this week and cries*). But the daughter who is planning it (the one that really doesn't like me) is getting a fancy limo to pick everyone up... all so that we can go back to her house and order Chinese food. So I have to shave my legs, all so I can not go out for dinner. Whut? This is YOUR PARENTS' 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY! But, hey, it's not my grandparents. On one hand, free food is free food. On the other, I could not deal with condescending stupid people, order my own Chinese food and eat it in my pajamas.

 

IMHO, free food overrides all of your other concerns.

 

I was dead to the world yesterday. Must've been for good because I feel better today.

I scored a shiny Arceus off of the Global Trade Station. The person wanted a Starly for it. Starly are common Pokemon, and I have a few, so I basically got the Arceus for nothing.

 

Had the weirdest dream:

Okay, so I'm an American infantryman fighting on a suddenly stiffened German front in the spring of 1945, against enemy troops that are well-supplied and though there are boys fighting us along with the men, they're a helluva lot better at it for some unknown reason. My squad (I'm a sergeant) is cut off in a half-wrecked German town east of the Rhine, having to rely on dwindling ammo and a few of us (myself included) using captured enemy weapons. I find myself in a first-floor living space, alone with a terrified German civilian, with soldiers coming downstairs to get at me; the civilian is clearly more afraid of his own defenders than he is of me, though, and since my scrounged Walther pistol is out of ammo, he directs me toward a collection of knives. I grab a couple, intending to slice one up and pinch his weapon then shoot or stab his buddies.

Which is when things go really weird.

There's three German soldiers in the stairway, and I take two of them out quickly enough, but the third goes back upstairs and I follow, only to literally bump into a pair of Imperial stormtroopers. I shoot the [removed] with his buddy's weapon and football-tackle the two stormies, and we end up in a wrestling match that through sheer dumb luck, I manage to win. After ensuring that my opponents never get back up again, I don one of the trooper's helmets, only to be assaulted with comm chatter in English and German (apparently my dream character speaks a smattering of the latter). Anyway, the dream ends up with me (disguised as a stormie) and my squad (posing as prisoners) boarding a Lambda-class shuttle bound for whatever awaits us, intending to raise whatever hell we can when we arrive.

Welcome back Revanfan1 We haven't seen you here in a while, I thought it was because of Darth College.

 

Chyntuck I just might do that, but in all honesty if I were to write a WWII/GFFA crossover, this seems like a really good (if not the best possible) starting point. Always did enjoy in medias res as a storytelling device, me...

 

Chyntuck, Darth College has been pretty brutal, yeah. Biology especially. It's such a pain. Luckily the semester is almost over.

 

I always want to run and hide after I give someone a gift (except to children) and I'd rather them not open it in front of me. Gifts stress me out big time, giving them, getting them, it doesn't really matter, the whole exchange makes me anxious. (I do wonder what that says about me, probably something terrible. ) But I know the polite thing to do is open them in front of people, so I do.

The only thing I remember from my dreams is Springtrap (Golden Bonnie, or Zombie Bonnie from FNaF) dancing the robot to the keyboard baseline from Information Society's What's on Your Mind.

Hi everyone!

 

It's the Empire's fault for aiding the Nazis. Though it wasn't mentioned in the dream itself, the thought in my head was that Imperial forces first "helped" Germany by crushing the Red Army, which allows German troops to be transferred to the Western Front to oppose the continued Allied advance. Thus, we get the situation wherein the dream takes place.

 

That makes sense...I just don't know why they'd help anyone other than themselves.

 

I'm about to kill Roll20 and its map grid system...

 

Goodwood I also have plans for a WWII/GFFA crossover of sorts next year, so maybe we can start a very, very specialised support thread?

In my case it started not because of a dream but because of the poetry challenge, for which I'll end up writing a different story, and seeing how bad I am at repelling plot bunny invasions I wonder how I can ever hope to write a military fic, but there you are...

 

Good luck with those, guys. I'm not brave enough to try that. I fear it would end up a trope fest.

This map I've saved off of a PDF is not fitting in with their grid system at all, no matter how many times I do what their FAQ and wiki tells me to do.

 

I hate when things like that happen. Argh.
