I know the comics (rightfully so) have a bad reputation with copying fan art when it comes to depicting ships. I think it's a shame that it overshadows a lot of the cool original work that appears in the comics. I'd like to share some profiles of ships that originated in the comics. I'll start with the Mellcrawler and Mellcrawler II. If this is something people like I could do more of these (Imperialis, Lord Junn, Kasmiri, Ark Angel (I, II, and III), etc...)

I think its new (or maybe its been there for a while and I missed it?) but Disney+ posted a fly-by of some Star Wars ships for this day, the Millennium Falcon and the First Order Star Destroyer. The Resurgent-class design has grown on me over the years, just too bad the sequels wasted it (that and bad directing rarely gave a good shot of it, and it wasn't in battle much anyway). So it was nice to get close-up shots of it now.

The Flythroughs are both very much worth the four minutes or so required to watch them. The Star Destroyer one in particular reveals some interior areas that I don't remember appearing on screen in the films. I hope some more of these are in the works.

We got a class name for the Bad Batch shuttle (I really don't think this should be tagged but whatever)

it's an Omicron Class Class Attack shuttle

Another cool design...but does he have some sort of fixation on making most of the background ships corvettes? The Alliance is pretty much being shown as having Mon Cal ships as the heavy ships of their fleet supported by corvettes, frigates and smaller ships from other cultures.

Just one fan's humble opinion...but I thinks some of these should be heavy cruiser to light destroyer types with a fair amount of hangar space.

Well, in a way, in-universe it'd be a struggle to find any large-scale ships beyond Nebulon-Bs and Quasar Fires for the Alliance forces. They were lucky to get their hands on the Mon Calamari fleet and stealing Dreadnaught heavy cruisers plus a few Bulk Cruisers here in there. In other words, small frigates and corvettes and gunships are likely the best the Alliance could get.

The majority of these background ships are from that one ESB scene. Unless those background ships are really far away (which would be odd), they kind of have to be smaller ships. Plus the Redemption is softly implied to be the flagship of the fleet, though it's a bit ambiguous.

The fixation belongs to the original film/model makers. Those who have made their own versions of these ships in the past (myself included) have made them smaller as well, because that seems to be the original intent. The Rebels could certainly have used some more medium-sized ships, but unfortunately that's a bone you'll have to pick with the movies themselves.

You can even look at Rebels- most of the "fleet" there are Neb-Bs or Corvettes/similar-sized vessels. Obviously, that's still 3-5 years prior, but they're limited in what they have plus the state of the fleet at the end of ESB (no Mon Cals present, etc, so they gotta be elsewhere).

Not saying there need to be a lot of them. Or that they have to be new construction. They can be old PSF ships that are 20-30 years old or older.

The fleet could very well be spread out and the reason the Neb is in center is that it is a hospital ship and is focused on because that is the ship we are going to to see the heroes.

I am just generally annoyed at the lack of ships outside SDs and Mon Cals in that size range...or that gap of Heavy Cruiser to Light Destroyer like the Victory or Recusant.

Could be! But sadly that doesn't seem to be the intent of the movie makers, plus Star Wars in general tends to have very compact fleets. What's the point of recreating old background ships if you're going to ignore the original intent?

There is one background ship in ROTJ that seems to be medium-sized (a Mon Cala ship), but otherwise almost every background ship we see in the OT films is likely on the small side, so naturally the recreations of said ships are going to follow the same pattern. Big ships tend to be important to the plot and get larger, more detailed models. They usually aren't relegated to background fluff.

I'd rather see fan artists fleshing out corvette and frigate-type ships than making yet more Mega-Super-Ultra Star Destroyer variants, TBH...

I wouldn't mind seeing a fan edit of the Battle of Endor that features Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carriers, Neutron Star-class bulk cruisers, DP20 gun frigates, YKL-37R Nova Couriers, the Ghost, X4 gunships, the Mighty Oak Apocalypse, the Otana, MC30c frigates, MC40a light cruisers, Z-95 Headhunters, CloakShape fighters, Marauder-class corvettes, Assault Frigate Mark I's, Assault Frigate Mark II's, the extra unnamed ships EC Henry has being busy with, along with whatever class of battlecruisers the Pride of Tarlandia and Ilthmar's Fist, Carrack-class light cruisers, Raider-class corvettes, Strike-class medium cruisers, Imperial patrol crafts, TIE Advanced X1s, TIE light scouts, TIE bombers and TIE Defenders.

Just having them in odd shots here in there along with extra B-wing shots. Heck, add a sequence with several extra pilots, similar to whatever Adywan plans. Surprised Lucasfilm isn't after Adywan for his Revisited edits yet.

Isn’t this just the Imperial Storm Commando Escort Carrier from Rogue Squadron III, made to look like a Mon Cal vessel?

Perhaps the Imperial Escort Carrier is based on the background ESB ship.

If that is about my comment...I want ships in the 600-1200 meter range. Not Executor and bigger dreadnoughts.

Hmm well even so...most of the background ships in that ESB scene really look more like utility ships rather than warships.

Also if the rebels are getting their ships from PSFs, well I don't think the average PSF would have had ships bigger than frigates anyway.

    ESB fleet:
    - 1 modified Nebulon-B frigate (Redemption)
    - At least 5 GR-75 transports
    - At least 3 tanker ships
    - At least 1 modified transport ("Queen Mola")
    - At least 3 "industrial freighters"
    - At least 1 "boarding shuttle"
    - At least 1 "old-style corvette" ("Longfin")
    - At least 3 other different ships, likely modified utility ships

    Moves sense :)

I didn't know there's V-Wings visible on screen in the opening sequence in RotS! I clicked the screenshots posted here but it was just the Jedi Interceptors over the "Jedi Cruiser". Someone mentioned Vulture Droid fighters in the screenshot, but I didn't see any of those either.

Say hello to a friend of mine: https://starwarsscreencaps.com/4k-star-wars-episode-iii-revenge-of-the-sith-2005/

Study every space scene of the opening battle right through to the crashing on the Invisible Hand. Then when you watch the film proper, ignore the center and focus on the background. You will never unsee a V-wing ever again :)

They're also visible at the end of the film when we see the colorless Venator.
