An argument could be made that military operations are using a military shuttle as opposed to a diplomatic tranport shuttle.

Yeah, but both Thrawn and Grand Moff Tarkin used it has a "VIP transport" in safe situations more than once.

Scaled down and modified yeah. The design was a wink and nod. World Devastators were FAR larger. The crawlers were being propelled by what looked like chemical rockets (probably more likely some sort of fusion) to keep them up. World Devastators had respulsorlifts in the legs.

Could be that Sentinels like those were modified to be mobile command centers.

It would be pretty easy to assume that the crawlers were the commercial product the WD's could later be based on (or, since WDs supposedly can add to themselves, IIRC, they were built up from the base crawler designs).

^That's how I'm spinning it in my head. Mayhaps the World Devastators can appear in a limited fashion in a future storyline set during the fall of the empire post-Endor.

    Fingers ****ing crossed.

Imperial Leviathans would also suggest there were precursors to the final World Devastator we all know.

Tbh the idea of the World Devastator is so great that I can't believe it will be abandoned forever. It's a concept that can be basically kept inn your back pocket for as long as you like, and provide a perfect excuse for a army out of no where to throw up a warlord or whatever, and one with a built in way to wipe out the whole army by killing the guy at the top. Like, imagine Rey and Finn fighting a whole army of drone Tie Fighters created by a World Devastator that has grown to the size of a new Death Star, following a last protocol instituted by the Empire to continue to grow and produce ships.

Or: In this issue of the "Star Wars:" Can Our Heroes defeat the malevolent might of "Cyber-Vader?"

Believe Pablo or Filoni went on on how the empire is so big that it wouldn't be surprising that the empire wouldn't be using different vehicles and ships for the same roles in different parts of the empire at the same time, and Pablo did say that the AT-ST's and AT-DP's are being used at the same exact time, though AT-ST's are technically newer.
Sentinals are just probably used for people who like them better than Lambda's or what's more available on a star destroyer in the moment. Just depends on the situation and the officer's preference

Thrawn is a military officer....and Tarkin just might have a preference for the military shuttle for whatever reason. More space for whatever he needs to take along with him, heavier weapons on a stock model, appearances, etc...

Not to mention Tarkin would totally prefer the more tough looing shuttle. Honestly really works compared to Krennic's ostentatious, to a point of flaw, shuttle

Oh yeah forgot to mention Krennic was all hipster and brought back a corporation just barely out of bankruptcy for his prototype less advanced shuttle, so apparently all officers get their preferences on shuttles based off of just that

Probably not all officers...but at his level there might be some leeway.

Interesting theory, I'm pretty sure we've seen at least a different interior for the Sentinel in the series (the one with the bathroom used by Wedge), so it would make sense to have different models like a command one.
That's great news for me, I've always been a big fan of walkers and that's a very useful piece of information (which totally absent in the Wookieepedia page). If you could remember the source it would be of great help.
While I agree it could work as a matter of personal preference of heavier armor and weaponry of some officers, I'm not sure it would work too well with Tarkin and his overconfidence.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the RO UVG mentions that Krennic's position allowed him to make the choice. I assume that most officers use regular TIE/sh and Lambda shuttles.

To be honest, I've always hated the look of the Lambda Shuttles, they are just so ugly and, grey.

Ugly and grey is the reason we like Star Wars ships :DDD

True, things like the Star Destroyers and Mon Cala Cruisers are nice, but the Lambda Shuttle just feels, like almost too real, like something we would use in 50-80 years from now.

I think that's what makes it appealing, honestly. It feels real. Almost every craft that has copied some aspect of its design (particularly the folding shuttle wings) have gone in more sci-fi-y or alien directions and, as a result, almost all other shuttle designs in the films and shows have kinda sucked to look at compared to the Lambda.

The Sentinel is one of the very few to escape this, but mostly because it's really just a slightly heavier variant of the same basic design. Doesn't feel quite as sinister, though (despite the "evil eyes" added in Rebels).

I must admit I'm not a really big fan of both major TCW shuttle designs, Krennic's Delta T2c (given the stealth look, I wish they gave it a more specialised role) and Kylo's Upsilon-class, but I think that they did a pretty good job with the Theta and Zeta classes. It's a bit of a shame that the Xi-class didn't receive cross section, as I think it works pretty well as a TIE/sh "low range shuttle" replacement.

I think the Nune Class, especially the Fast Version from Legacy was very nice and original-looking. Same with the Crix Diplomatic Courier. Something luxurious and Lambo-in-space looking would've fit great for Krennic's Shuttle, like something Nubian, and its said that's what he was going for, but we don't get it visually. What we get is some comically large wings and a triangle in the middle. Kylo's Bat-Shuttle doesn't look particularly good either.

The Crix-class shuttles from Legacy were one of my all time favorite shuttles. A cool CEC ship in a Mon Cala hermit crab shell. I love them so much! [face_love]

The super large wings are just strange. I mean, ok, you occasionally get that bat-like visual when they're in the process of folding, but they look weird landed or in flight (though less so while landed), so it's a limited window of appeal, IMO.

I mean, I guess it's not as bad on the cargo shuttle but Kylo & Krennic's have that problem, being smaller, more personalized craft. Krennic's feels the weirdest though, because it's almost like they took the Skyhopper and ruined the proportions and lines.

The Theta, though, is sorta what I was talking about before- they wanted something Lambda-like but made it more sci-fi-y in the body and threw in a rounder cockpit. i'd actually be ok with the shortened central fin part of the Theta, though.

I don't know why, but I really like the Upsilon. Maybe it's cause when we first saw it, it was pretty unique looking. The wings are annoying though. Honestly I think it would work better if they just never moved. Like what's the point of them? They only shift maybe 40 degrees or so.
