Yep. And if you REALLY wanted to set that scene off right, how about Obi-Wan appearing to Luke, but played by Ewan McGregor? They could have easily added a five second line of dialogue to explain his change in appearance.

To me, of all else, this is the biggest miss of the ST - there is no force ghost character interaction between Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, and/or Liam Neeson. If the goal truly was to bring the story full-circle, this should have been a no-brainer move.

Well I can forgive Liam since Luke had no connection to Qui Gon onscreen. But they already established that FG's can change appearance since Hayden Anakin appeared in ROTJ, so people would have been fine with Ewan as Obi Wan here I think.

Agreed, it could have a even been an opportunity to have canonized a reason for Anakin's change in appearance with a reason for it. It could have served a purpose in the story even. As it stands now, that ROTJ edit was pointless; it didn't have to be.

Agree that Luke didn't know Qui-Gon, but 30 years have passed since we last saw Luke, so there could have been time for them to have established a relationship. I don't even think it was necessary to be a whole scene, but maybe just have a scene start off with Luke being interrupted while communing with him and we just hear Liam's voice, similar to the scene from AOTC with Yoda hearing his voice.

It didn't even have to be acknowledged, but just there as a little nugget/Easter egg of sorts.

I don't think Han was a Force Ghost in TROS. He was simply part of Kylo's internal dialogue as he processed what was happening to him.

I'm not saying he was... Just that my wife was surprised to see him. She later understood what was going on.

You guys are missing my point, lol.

I never said he was a Force ghost... My wife was just surprised to see him since she assumed, correctly, that he was dead. I was just reminded of this part because if this discussion.

Plus the general audience might as well think he was a force ghost

That scene reminded me of when Clark Kent has a vision of Jonathan Kent in Batman Versus Superman.

The only thing in the film was his quick “your just a memory” line plus the visual of him not being blue

It really is a beautiful scene.

Also, the fact that Leia's death happens at the same time more or less as Han appearing to Ben gives credence to the belief that she was somehow responsible for Han's appearance, and thus, the power to create such a thing is what killed her. So, essentially, she bows out the same way Luke did.

Leia should have been the one to say "always" at the end, like in the trailer.

I think Lucas after ANH said the Force may speak to Luke in future films.I think he meant it wouldn’t really be Kenobi. When he changed that to that actually being Kenobi I don’t know. And that is assuming my memoirs correct. Certainly by the time of ROTS as Yoda and Kenobi materialized in the first 2 drafts of ROTS to help Luke defeat the Emperor and Vader.

Which was the original plan for this film as well with force ghost Luke and Leia appearing besides Ben and Rey to defeat Palpatine.

Do we have any idea if those Sith cultists at the end were alive or dead? Were they Sith spirits or just the denizens of Exogol?

I pondered that quite a bit and am convinced it is because she wasn't entirely one with the Force until after she faded at the same moment as Ben.

Yeah, I figured that was the case as well but it seemed like a missed opportunity and considering how enigmatic the Force is, they could probably still have included it without causing much of a plot hole. Or at least, not as major a plot hole as some others that can be found in this film because at least you can answer this with how the Force works.
