And it covers a huge time period, the next 2000 years of weird Bran as King Tree.

That would be fun. You could culturally also do a renaissance period!

They should hire Nicholas Cage for this one

I want to see a prequel series set in the Reach showing Margaery Tyrell's early exploits helping poor people and encouraging morality. I imagine it would be styled after the life of John Chrysostom. Highgarden can be a sort of Antioch.

I want to see Ramsey Bolton's early years. Where he is helping poor people and encouraging morality and all this stuff.
And incest of course. And all the other great stuff his name stands for. Dog breeding and archery training with poor people for example.

How did I miss this last year! This is like the perfect GoT S8 reference...

"Ladies and gentlemen, the A̶r̶i̶s̶t̶o̶c̶r̶a̶t̶s̶ Jets!"

I'm legitimately excited for someone to someday break down all of ASoIaF/Game of Thrones' plot developments based on when Martin would've conceived them and how the Jets were playing at the time.

I'm very happy that they're going forward with this show rather than the other one, though I would love to see the pilot they shot! I'm fascinated by things that don't work lol

I think they have a lot of room with the Dance of Dragons story to flesh out some interesting characters and really play up the Targaryen bloodline in full. They could do flashback episodes of their ancestors too if it's worth tying into. And Paddy Considine is great.

Here's a good summary of everything we know so far including the most recent casting news: https://www.hbo.com/house-of-the-dragon

I see it's taking place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones so sure Melisandre could show up as suggested by @Darth Punk.
Any chance we'll see Beric and/or Thoros?

Huh? They weren't born yet. They're normal people with normal lifespans until Beric was killed/resurrected during the events of GoT.

Melisandre, if she was alive, was in Essos and was only concerned about the Others.

is this still 300 before with Aegon Targaryen or is this 150 years before with the Targaryen civil war.

Yeah I wasn't sure when they were born especially Thoros. Also since he's a red priest I didn't know if he was semi? immortal like Melisandre.

I got the impression Thoros wasn't all that experienced with the supernatural, or devout - which might suggest a relative newbie - and that no-one was more surprised than he was, when his funeral rite brought Beric back.

Thoros was a normal guy who was given to the Red Priests as a kid. He had been sent to Westeros to preach to Aerys II but he had lost his faith and just drank and partied all the time. Most Red Priests aren't like Melisandre; they can't perform "real" magic, at least not before the time of GoT. Thoros was surprised when the rites he had performed many times before resurrected Beric.

Well, when did magic die? Did it die with Valyria or with the dragons? We know the dragons brought it back during the events of AGoT.

I would think there would have been indications of magic being performed in Westeros from AWOIAF or Fire and Blood. Were there accounts after the Andal invasion and the near-extermination of the Children of the Forest?

Probably the most prominent mage was in between Fire and Blood and AGOT - Bloodraven, who almost certainly did a lot of warging, and in A Knight of Seven Kingdoms, is implied to be capable of doing "glamours" to disguise his appearance, as well.
