Sorry, I can't, my school gets very upset when we waste bandwidth like that...not to mention that with hundreds of people sharing two T1s, it's a pretty crappy connection.

    Dude use FlashGet.

I recommended DAP earlier last night, but I have uninstalled it after FlashGet gave me a 400-500% faster DL.

How does someone as powerful as Lucas Arts only have 1 stinking link to download a demo of a game they have been hyping for 8 months? C'mon guys put it on like 10 servers and distribute it to people like download.com you want us to beta test this or not???

    <yawn>.

Playing that GBG Demo mission made me realise how far ahead of its time Force Commander was. Sure it stank on min spec PCs, but as most of us are well above that now. If you see it in a bargain bin, and have ignored it in the past - it could be time to give it a go.

Anyway, back to the Battlegrounds Demo - Vader was pretty funny, though behaved unrealistically (slashing at corners of buildings with his saber to bring them down?).

What I was most disappointed in was that the mission was a simple "Seek and Destroy", kill everything in site. Never got the chance to make a base, fortify it, and build up a force - to get any sort of feel for the game.

There seem to be a few things to mine, but my troopers weren't interested, and I have no "workers". I'm new to this engine, but I didn't seem to be able to garrison any existing rebel structures either.

Ummm...no. The first of the 3D RTT games, Myth was ahead of FoCom in terms of gameplay, and both that and graphics were much enhanced by the time of, say, Ground Control which came out around the time of FoCOm...maybe even before it. If FoCom had been released as it was a year or 1.5 years earlier, it would've been ahead of its time, but it was sadly behind.

Instead of trying to set new standards, GBG is trying to make a fun game out of a rock-solid product.
