If Downfall of a Droid was the first episode to really drop the ball, this was the first episode to grind it into tiny pieces and BLAST it into oblivion.

Jar Jar had laid dormant for almost a decade after his very prominent role in Ep1. He has just a couple of scenes in Ep2 and was barely glimpsed in Ep3. I think most people believed the character was done. So it came as quite a shock when TCW suddenly gave him a starring role. And on top of that, they went fully back to his "clown" origins.

This is an episode I just disregard as NOT part of TCW. Unfortunately that is not so easy to do in future Jar Jar episodes. Mind you, I don't hate Jar Jar, I quite liked him in Ep1, in fact. But I just don't see why he has to be such an utterly helpless clown. It's ok to be clumsy and a bit dim, but here they WAY overdo it.

I think I'll give the episode a 2, just because I liked the plot with Onaconda losing faith on the Republic, turning on them, only to find his way back through Padme.

I found myself enjoying the idea of putting Jar Jar with C-3PO together. Besides, we saw Rodia, so that's a big plus to me.

I loved this episode and its little nuances. Jar Jar finding Anakin's cloak on Padme's ship, the Battle Droids mistaking him for a Jedi, Jar Jar actually using his amphibiousness, Nute Gunray, so on.

The biggest problem I see with Jar Jar in most cases in TCW, but mostly in this episode, is that he acts like his TPM self. In AOTC, Jar Jar's portrayal and attitude changed completely, most likely due to maturity, as well as his role as Representative of Naboo/Chommell sector. Jar Jar shouldn't have reverted back to his TPM, goofball, annoying, jarring, ect, self in this episode. Even though it might be in his character to act this way, the transition AOTC introduced, and some other sources, Jar Jar just didn't work in Bombad Jedi. His clumsy behavior, literally thousand grenade dodging, droideka blaster dodging, cringeworthy voice, appearance just didn't work.

    2/10

    Wow...how wooden was that!

To be fair, I did rewatch Padawan Lost about 20 minutes before sitting through this one, so any Season 1 stuff was bound to look terrible in comparison.

So, the droids think Jar Jar is a Jedi eh? Doomed from the start.

    [image=http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2376/1991665328_70be0222bb.jpg]

^Stick to this in the future please TCW team.

On the other hand, I couldn't help laughing at Jar Jar's antics, as much as I wanted to hate him and not give him any credit. Still annoying as hell, but at least they actually bothered to get Ahmed Best in to do the voice this time - really not looking forward to the next two Jar Jar eps. I'd agree that the clown-ness was overdone, but then it was bound to happen with Jar Jar in a starring role. I've had enough of Threepio comedy as well. It's the same stuff over and over.

I wasn't aware Padme was this good at fighting, I thought she just picked up a gun and rolled with it.[face_tired] Serious Mary Sue vibes emanating off her in this one.

In terms of positives, the introduction of Gunray was fun, he really knows how to hold a grudge! And Onaconda Farr is a good character too. Oh, and the sea monster.

    So I settled on a 3.

8 :p - seriously:p it is not good but not bad and fact that we have Nute as bad guy is great and "real" Jar Jar- never had any Jar Jar-issue with PT -he is bit irritating but i dunno.... i have no problem with him- he had huge character shield in this though -that's why it gave those -2 to this episode but nothing else is wrong- Padmé is not irritating in this- Rodia- home of Greedo's kin- nice design- Onaconda Farr sounds like a clone but one of Dee Bradley's ok roles not too much like clone it doesn't bother me- Rune Haako was not there that was bad but at least Nute was.....

This is too hated episode because of Jar Jar- only scene i cannot stand is where droidekas miss that was too much:oops:. Even jedi fear them and Jar Jar just jumped and they missed him....

with Quinlan Vos model being ready at the time this would've been much better he would've ordered those "accidents" that save Jar Jar not Jar Jar's mystical luck.... well i guess Force is always with him:p

Another possible con is that episode is perhaps too much like ESB's ending- old friend being traitor but redeemed at the end, 3po in trouble, bad guy changing his deal all the time and even "prisontower" Lando mentions in ESB- and Padmé is so like Leia on Cloud City when escaping droids.... i liked that reference it's definitely not too much like ESB if there is Jar Jar in action[face_laugh]

i guess that slugmonster was sentient so his friendship with Jar Jar- while bit childish plot-twist yeah I know- don't bother me it's not any less realistic than usual SW-stuff- wonder if we'll see Kwazel Maw again in some episode....

I hated this episode first but i've learnt to like it since we have not enough Nute after this and that horrible fake-Jar Jar in too many episodes- and they proved they can do much worse with corruption and Mortis:p This had more entertainment value for me:p

-I really enjoyed this episode for its entertainment value and the whole Rodia v Republic subplot they had going on for a while there
-I liked how C-3PO was trying to cover up for Anakin's cloak being in Padme's ship
-I love the portrayal of Padme here
    -C-3PO was hilarious
    -Liked the depiction of Rodia
-1 for the monster; it was nice, but it seemed like a deus ex machina

How can you give an 8 (very good) to an episode you openly admit to being "not good"?

Meant to watch this last night but I got too tired.

IIRC, I thought this was the funniest we've seen Jar-Jar in TCW. I remember the outcry when they were doing a Jar-Jar episode 8 episodes into the first season - pretty gutsy.

Well in retrospect it was the best Jar Jar episode until Supply Lines. But that was more Jar Jar co-starring alongside Bail Organa and Ima-Gun Di.

Gotta say, I'm surprised that so far the ratings aren't much different from normal. I was expecting them to go way down the tubes. I've noticed Robimus hates all the episodes I love and loves all the episodes I hate. [face_laugh] I'll re-watch this before giving it a 1 just to be as fair as possible.

I managed to sound bipolarized myself- in fact i'm not sure was 8 too much but well i gave 7 to Duel of the Droids and this one is bit better.... by far i've given high ratings to all episodes Downfall being.... a downfall:p ...

I guess there is certain nostalgy in season1 for me- something i didn't even realise before- this episode was not my favs when it aired...... if only i would've known what is coming in season3[face_worried]...... but if they use Padmé they can use her like this she didn't irritate me at all- and i'm great fan of Gunray if episode has Gunray saying "Kill the jedi!" It automatically receives at least seven from me:p

you keep each other in balance:p ...

This episode was the first time I actually considered Jar Jar an actual hero. For once he saved the day through effort and not just a series of lucky accidents. I have to give TCW some major credit for that. C-3PO was a nice foil to him. Honestly, it was a stroke of genius to write them together since they are such opposites. Nute Gunray was his normal, awsome self and Onaconda Farr was a nice exemple of a "well-meaning" Separarist.

So, at the risk of [face_beatup], I gave the episode a 10. ;)

I liked this too but Jar Jar really had series of both lucky and unlucky "accidents"

    5/10 I accidentally hit 6 though.

Mediocre episode fixed with a couple of good parts. First of all, Padme and 3PO sharing exasperation over Jar Jar is a plus, nobody likes him even in universe. Also, we saw Commander Gree in this episode, setting up for the next admittedly excellent episode.

But the bad. Jar Jar, Fish, incompetent B1s, and "Uncle Ono". So flippin' stupid.

Really after rewatching it this weekend I forgot how mad I was after my first viewing. Granted we are getting a ton of Star Wars episodes, they should not have wasted their time trying to make a funny episode. Jar Jar didn't bug me in TPM but let me just say this. I was in fourth grade when I saw that movie and it was the first time I ever seen a Star Wars movie. The reason I feel in love with Star Wars was because of the sweet lightsaber fight at the end of the movie, not Jar Jar. I didn't hate him as a kid but even then I was wondering how making the mistakes he was making on a battle field where people were dying was suppose to be funny.

Anyway, this episode I don't want to say was pointless because Nute got captured but a lot of things were pointless. Jar Jar was taken to a whole other level of stupidity and I know this is fiction but I do like it to stay somewhat serious so I don't like things when someone falls off a tall building only to have a bungie cord around his foot by sheer chance. Nobody watches Star Wars for its comedy. Sure a couple good jokes are fine in an episode but you don't need to make an entire episode around it. Also Padme was captured again only to break herself out again. Kinda takes the whole threat of being captured by the enemy not that big of deal.

Politics in this episode wasn't bad. In fact I think the idea of showing planets joining with the Seps was a good but the way they went about it completely destroyed a chance for a solid episode. Also after my first watch of this episode back in 2008 I called it quits for a while till I saw the rerun of Lair of Grievous when flipping through the channels.

Seeing the Rodians was nice, as well as the subplot involving them joining the Separatists. The Jar Jar antics however mostly fell flat for me which diminishes the episode overall (honestly, the funniest part was probably C3PO telling Padme what happened to their ship).

I would give this episode a 5/10. I liked Gunray and the Rodians and I could tolerate Jar Jar and Threepio to an extent. I kind of liked the idea of Jar Jar disguised as a Jedi.

However with that being stated the reason why I'm giving this episode an average score is because it unfortunately in a way begins the "lovely" tradition of someone wanting to capture and-or kill Padme, particularly with this:

Nute: Hah! Hah! Now we're going to have Padme executed! Hah! Hah!

    Moments later:

Nute: Oh no somebody rescued her before we could do anything!

    My response: [face_plain]

And that is why I'm giving this episode an average score and its not because of Jar Jar being a clumsy oaf. If you ask me he's a lot more tolerable in this episode then he was in The Gungan General. Instead its because the TCW writers for some reason cannot come up with anything truly creative involving Padme's character. And more importantly there's hardly any variety portrayed to Padme's character in the TCW show. Granted there's one or two good exceptions to how her character is portrayed in general, but overall I just don't like the whole "Someone captures and-or wants to kill Padme" ordeal. This idea tends to bring the quality of the episodes its featured in down, even if the episode itself overall was decent.
