I have the disc version of the PS5 but I don’t think I have bought any disc games for the PS5. I may have to check Jedi survivor may be a disc game I own.

Astro Bot I think is a guaranteed psplus game eventually. I actually booted up Astros Playroom because I saw a update and they added a section where you can buy / travel to Astro Bot

I have the PS5 disc version (since I use it for everything, not just games, since I still buy physical media and don't see that changing anytime soon) and as long as the PS6 has a disc drive (even a detachable one, since the PS5 was the first console I had to open if only to add more storage), I'll buy one. It's not that hard to add a disc drive, it might be as easy as adding extra storage.

I bought Astro Bot on physical as well as the limited edition Astro Bot controller on the Walmart website (they should arrive sometime today or tomorrow). I have a regular HDTV which works fine with my PS5 (my next TV might be 4K, but my current HDTV that I inherited from my late grandmother works just fine).

I found all the "hidden" bots in Astro's Playroom (though I had to look online on where to find them), so hopefully they can be brought over to a physical version of Astro Bot as well.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm counting on. Sony will get some free money by selling it retail; and then in about a year (or less) they'll have it pop up in the Plus catalog.

Sorry for the DP but I just couldn't wait.

Now THIS is the system update that gets my attention.

I'm up to 286 Bots in Astro Bot.

Again, I say this is a great game, love the music etc... and my youngest (18 (god I'm old)) is loving it too

The remaining 14 are hidden behind some of the hardest one hit missions in the game. If I was sober, some of these missions would drive me to drink, likewise, if I were a drunk, they would drive me to sobriety.

These are the Triangle levels and are my current nemesis.

I heard that Sony plans to make the eventual PS6 its last hardware console, and the PS7 and onward would somehow need to be tied to your PC to work and only be a "virtual" console, as part of their grand strategy? What the heck, and how would that even work?

I think that's someone making up crap for clicks.

PS6, at the earliest, is 2028.

A PS7 would be years later still, easily over a decade away.

With the way tech development is going, who knows where things will be by then?

Yeah that sounds exactly like an industry analyst rather than someone from Sony. The usual development cycle would suggest they’re not going to make decisions about systems after the PS6 until shortly after the PS6 is announced. Hardware and strategy wise they’re likely trying to triangulate PS6 relative to PS5 Pro at the moment.

PS7 needs to just be a Dive system from Sword Art Online.

There's no way this is true. The last virtual console was Google's and it tanked and is gone already

It's only a matter of time before we have cloud gaming as the defacto way to game. Gone will be the days of consoles and exclusives. The next generation of gamers will be reared on cloud gaming. No Switch 3, PS6 and Xbox XXX. You also won't own your own games.

The PS6 is almost assuredly already prototyped and I would assume the next Xbox is as well.

Isn’t the entire purpose of consoles to provide a stock standard ‘gaming PC’ for the mass market? If you’d need a PC to run the PS7, half the appeal of the system is gone - at that point I’d just invest in a really good PC and run all of my games through that. Developers will just set a standard amongst themselves for hardware most of the public has, and/or third parties will release generic consoles so the public has ready made hardware to buy.

Lol you vastly overestimate how good most of the world's Internet is. Also the rumor is PS6 is for 2028 which means it's already being worked on.

There is a school of thought in industry analyst circles that the next generation might be the last traditional console generation as we move to “device as platform” following the streaming model, at which point your PS7 would look something like a specialty gaming Apple TV, you’d be able to play the games on basically anything with streaming capabilities - like your computer - and that might be what Ghost is half-remembering (again, I’m assuming this whole discussion is rooted in “something an analyst said” and not anything Sony said or leaked because this all smacks of it).

However, the death of the console has been predicted multiple times and has yet to manifest. Furthermore, analysts providing quotes to industry news articles tend to take big swings to draw attention to themselves or their analyst firms, which is reciprocated in the enthusiast press’ desire for clickbait. From a more conventional standpoint we know just because of basic market cycles that the next boxes are already being worked on, and that’s a tough cycle to pioneer your way out of regardless of the perceived next trend.

So I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I am saying multiple non-Sony parties have a vested interest in presenting this narrative in this way solely to drive engagement.

Would the ‘hardware’ which traditionally allows the game to run have to be off-sited as well then? Streaming a game where the hardware is basically just your television and your internet cables seems like it would take an ungodly good internet connection (something my country definitely doesn’t have). Unless televisions are going to assist with this.

Yes, the assumption is cloud computing would be the primary processing method. And I’m with you on being skeptical of a full pivot happening any time soon owing to the logistics of Internet capabilities. Sometimes the argument is that consumers will be “so used” to cloud gaming latency that the majority of the audience will put up with it. If so, we’re still a long way off from even that status quo - and while it’s anecdotal, my impression has largely been that the only people who fiddle around with cloud computing are already hardcore hobbyists, not the mass market.

Ghost of Tsushima's sequel has been announced for 2025!!! It's a new story a few hundred years later. It's called Ghost of Yotei and I'm so excited.

    And it looks stunning.

Smart move to do a new story as Jin's was done.

HZD remaster 31 Oct, £9 upgrade path.

Daughter has already said she'll drop the £9 on HZD upgrade

I've told HZD is stunning enough as it is (the PS5 update did look good on screen to be honest) but if she wants to drop the cash she earning then so be it.

I really wish I liked Ghost as again the Yotei game looks very good but I really did struggle last time. I may give it another go as I really dislike buying games and getting nowhere with them.

Hell is Us looked interesting though
