A 2.1 cable should work with 2.0 ports and still allow 4K, albeit without as high a maximum frame rate. I can guess at two possible issues given the behavior being described:

    1. There are different grades of HDMI ports on the TV, and the XBox is plugged into the better one.
    2. The cable that came with the PS5 has an issue.

If JS can rule out 1, then 2 can be addressed by just ordering a new 2.1 cable for like $10 or whatever.

I know the HDMI port my PS5 uses is set to Enhanced but I don't know if the TV can only run one HDMI connection at that level. (One is all I need)

Yeah usually there's one port that's HDMI 2.0 at least for a 4k tv, which would be what you want to use. If you don't want to always have to plug and unplug the HDMI cords, you can get an HDMI switcher as long as it's compatible with HDMI 2.0. That way you can switch between them and still get 4k on both.

Completely depends on the TV and the year. I know that TVs with multiple 2.1 ports are basically the bleeding edge, and then you’ll tend to see combinations with earlier protocols (say one 2.1 or 2.0 port and a 1.4 or whatever) as you look at older models.

Watching the Ratchet and Clank gameplay vid from the State of Play - it is jaw-droppingly good looking.

Also on some HDMI 2.0 tvs like mine you'll have a port compatible with eArc, VRR, and other features even though it's not actually 2.1.

Watched the R&C vid again - yeah, I can see myself paying £60-65 for this. It actually looks to be worth it.

I thought I could plug in my external and just pick up with no issues??

I have cold Steel 3 able to play now but none of my save files are showing!

External drive only has the game data, save data is deemed separate to it.

Your saves will either be on your old PS4 or, if you have it and have uploaded copies of all your saves, PS+ cloud storage.

If you have cloud storage, go and download the lot to your PS5. If you don't have PS+ there might be another way to transfer, but the cloud route was the route I took.

Thumb drive, maybe? They do let you use them for PS4 save backups, it seems like that would be an obvious way to move them to other devices.

Dunno. I've used it OK for MP3 files but you have to have them in a MUSIC folder for the PS system to read it as such. Save data might be similar but haven't tried it.

PS+ cloud store appealed as it was easiest - boot up PS4, upload saves; switch to PS5, download saves.

Don't be so hard on yourself, I hit all the walls you're hitting now.

But this is the Internet, you've got help here.

If you don't have PS+, nab the free trial and use that to do this one time data transfer.

    Yay.

This is something to justifiably freak out on, how many hours of save data are we talking? Probably way over 100 hours.

It’s actually good in a really roundabout way that the PS4 doesn’t store the originals of your saves to external hard drives or there could be weird, weird errors if the external isn’t plugged in or gets unplugged or what have you. Now, why you can’t back up your saves to your game hard drive... that I chalk up to bad software design.

I was thinking in terms of all your saves but 138hrs for CS3? Wow, I've ages to go on that series then.

Oh hell I can’t even calculate all the hours. Likely thousands.

That’s just how I roll on RPGs though. I get my $ worth out them. You can get done much quicker than that. CS3 is listed as an 80 hrs game but that is just boring and basic.

Aw sith I actually was a little more in then that... my morning session didn’t make the transfer over so I’m now having to redo that. Hmm I wonder why it didn’t cloud save that? Bout 2 hrs worth of stuff from this morning. It was all dialogue so thankfully no lvl progress I’m out of luck on..

Any ideas why that would be lost?

Did you upload the latest save to the cloud? Can be easy to miss one.

Two of the best bits for me were the boss fight across two dimensions and then later the high speed sequence across 2-3 dimensions.

I didn’t. It’s all set auto from what I can see. Makes me wonder if it is on some kind of timer?
