What a blast last night. Darth_Eagle, DarthSyn and myself were there, we met up in the queue

3 of us were in the first 50, so we clinched the poster (double-sided movie version of Anakin and Padme (back to back) and the R2D2)
YEAH!

It was interesting, the SW fans are a lot more polite than the HDB or Hello Kitty queues.... the winner was this chap who was there at 8.30am (!!!)....

Have fun collecting the figures/ships, I have most of them now, Eagle can attest to that

Any plans for May 16? or is everyone going for May 11 Charity?

I was at Tampines TOYS R US this morning... abt 30 pple were there as well... everyone rushed in at 10:30am for more Jango Fett and Count Dooku!

Everything was there less those really pricey ($59.90) Coruscant Speeders! Got my Count Dooku finally.

Dun worry for those who never get as Metro, Carrefour, Daimaru and others will start selling them very soon. But dun expect a repeat of over production of Jango Fett and Count Dooku like the "DARTH MAUL OVERPRODUCTION" as Hasbro has cut down their productions A LOT!

Hmm... anyone was at Taka or other TOYS R US today??

Star Wars fever heats up as fans snap up toys

It was a midnight sale of galactic proportions as fans turned out in force to buy the latest toys from the new Star Wars movie, Episode II, Attack of the Clones.

And no budget was too big for some die hard fans.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, Star Wars characters entered our lives and became a part of popular culture.

Young Jedis waited patiently in line on Monday night, to get their hands on the first batch of Episode II toys to go on sale in Singapore.

The Force is strong with Derrick Yeoh, who was the first in line.

He waited nearly 16 hours for the doors to open at the stroke of midnight.

Most started grabbing as much as they could carry once they were let in.

To most of us, these are just toys, but there's a strange dark force, casting a spell over fans, telling them to get the Star Wars merchandise.

"I've got Jango Fett, Boba Fett, Count Dooku, C3PO, Yoda, Kit Fisto and Clone trooper," said one Star Wars fan.

"I'm here on holiday, luckily my hotel is just across the road and found out this was open," said another.

A third said: "In Episode II the coolest character is Jango Fett, my budget was about $200 but I think I may have exceeded my budget to about $300."

"There's no budget," cried another fan.

For most major Hollywood blockbusters, merchandising has become a marketing strategy.

And it was no different in this case.

Sales were brisk, with cash registers ringing with a happy tune and shelves almost empty after just an hour.

Those who failed to get their hands on the toys can catch the characters in action in Episode II, Attack of the Clones, which opens in cinemas on May 16.

I didn't make it to the rush as I have some nite lessons going on... what did you pick up? I suppose the price of a regular fig should be same as the Sneak Preview lot huh? $17.9 each?
I have since gone REALLY SLOW on Starwars collectibles and I think the last item I bought was a Sneak Preview clonetrooper at Daimaru about 2 weeks ago and that purchase is about 2 months apart from the last buy

And I think I may know what's is his reserve price in SG$?

Anyway, the Royal Guard figure should be coming to Singapore soon, probably the next wave. More of AOTC figures should be coming in soon.

 

You guys are SO lucky! I wish I got that poster..still, I couldn't have stayed until 12 unless it was a weekend.

Envy you ppl for being able to meet up..I certainly would like to meet all of u. Hopefully that will come true soon =)

 

Ya, it was FUN to meet at least 2 members of this Forum last night.

Anyway, if you had wanted to be able to get the poster, have to be there by 8pm; if not must "Force" squeeze behind me or Winbros. A few fellows I heard end up outside the toilet last night . . .

Know where to buy normal AOTC posters? (not those promotional ones like those given out last night)

I think there were 100+ ppl..that's so cool! I can imagine the atmosphere!

 

reprints of the posters should be out by the time the movie is out, shdnt cost more than 15 sgg per poster... if u r interested in the double sided teaser poster, there are a couple of them on ebay...

 

Hmmm, maybe HMV will have such reprint posters again soon? I gotten my TPM Teaser Poster there back in 1999.

It was really heartening to see so many people still collecting Star Wars after so many years at Marina and Tampines early this morning... and many many more couldn't come down due to commitments!

Just came back from Bishan Daimaru 24 hours after opening of EP2 merchandise, guess what.... couple of boxes of Slave 1 & Reek, but only 1 EP 2 figure left (Anakin in Peasant Disguise), card condition so-so... sigh, thought I could get me some more Clonetroopers....

What's the countdown like for the Movie and who's watching it where? Are we gonna meet up??

Hmm, TRU which means Marina Square, Tampines, Forum and where is the new one (saw the ads/poster before but that was before it opens). Is it at Plaza Singapura? Pity the one at Yishun closed down some times back.

Izzit the one given out at Marina (Anakin and Padme), the movie poster or the Australian TOYS R US HASBRO poster?

So Taka and Robinson has... Maybe I'll buy my Obi-Wan Lightsaber there and get the poster! Hehe!

 

I think it's the Product Poster like the Australian TRU Midnight Freebies. Even if it's the Anakin & Padme one, don't think it'll be the same cause the one we got from TRU is Cinema Version (Double Sided).

 

Any free poster is good enough for me!
