    The Galiceno, hyperspace

Venge said, "I want to get away from the Empire as much as the next guy, but I'd also like to live to fight another day. What's our heading? If we can get to a planet where we could effect repairs and possibly barter for a spare part....?"

T’Rani said, "We need to get far away so that we're not tracked down, to a place safe enough or isolated enough to effect repairs since we can't do it in hyperspace. It would be nice if we could stop the leak until then, somehow?"

Keia gave Stunno an I-told-you-so shrug.

Stunno did not argue the point further. He said, “Let’s get on with it then.”

Keia looked at Venge and T’Rani. “Safe… isolated… barter for a spare part… Okay, let’s see what we got…”

She dashed back to the cockpit.

    * * *

The Galiceno dropped out of hyperspace and the disorientating swirl returned to a speckled starfield. A sun flooded the cosmic neighbourhood with amber light. Keia went through the nav-com reorientation with local markers.

“Where are we?” said Venge, occupying the captain’s seat beside Keia. All of the team had assembled in the cockpit for the event.

“Felucia system,” said Keia. She pointed. “That’s Felucia itself – fourth planet, with eight moons. Setting seven point three-seven.”

Nyll and T’Rani peered from their seats behind the front two. A world swathed with continents of multi-coloured jungles grew in the viewscreen as they closed.

    “Is anybody there?” asked Nyll.

Leaning in the doorway into the cockpit, Stunno grunted. “Better be, we need to find someone who’ll trade for a new part.”

T’Rani studied her computer screen. “The gazetteer must be out of date, or no-one has been here in over twenty cycles. A quiet backwater planet since the Clone Wars.”

Keia looked at Venge. “I’m sorry, this might be a mistake. It’s the best I can do this far out on the Perlemian Trade Route.”

Venge frowned. “A quiet backwater is just fine by me.”

Keia guided the GR-75 into the humid atmosphere and searched the main continent.

“No sign of major cities,” murmured T’Rani peering out of the viewport. “But there is record of local and migrated populations.”

Nyll spotted a momentary blip on her sensors but it was gone and she could not locate it again. “What was that?” she wondered aloud.

The others looked at her. She shrugged, “Like a contact with a passive sensor just bounced us, or maybe a com, but it died before I could confirm it. Came from those forested hills.”

“Where is everyone?” Keia wondered aloud. “Hiding in the jungles?”

She exchanged a glance with Venge and the silent message passed between them. Hiding from what?

“There,” Stunno pointed. “How about we put down and take a proper look around?”

“Yes, look!” said T’Rani, pointing out of the viewscreen. “There’s some kind of small settlement nearby.”

Keia gulped. The caverns Stunno had indicated were at the base of some mountains. They would surely hide them from orbital scans, but it would be tight for the transport. She guided it down and carefully manoeuvred in. They all breathed a sigh of relief when the Galiceno set down safely.

    * * *

As soon as the disembarkation ramp lowered, a flood of humid air scented with exotic orchids and other, more fungal whiffs assailed their nostrils. The heat was withering even within the cave, and those with heavy outer garments soon discarded them.

Little creatures slithered and scattered as they walked down the ramp to the cave floor.

Stunno climbed external rungs up the fuselage to reach the engine blocks. Nyll, Venge and T’Rani peered outside the yawning cavern entrance. It was certainly a colourful world, with giant fungus trees and all manner of strange alien plants. The soupy air was heavy with drifting spores. T’Rani immediately consulted medical equipment to check for toxins and allergens. A wild chorus of lizards and insects vibrated through the undergrowth.

“It’s definitely the stabilizer,” Stunno called down from the transport. “Fracture right down its length. We’ll need a new one for sure.”

Keia appeared from inside the transport, holding a datapad. They gathered.

“Here,” she said. “I took a snapshot before we landed. X marks our position. Northwest is the hills where Nyll caught that signal, maybe. Southwest is the settlement. Northeast is deep mega-fungus jungle. Southeast looks more barren to me.”

She looked around the group. “What do you want to do?”

He had not expected to land here, but upon arrival, he did not mind the place so much. It was hot, honest and raw, much like himself. It did not presume to be anything else other than itself. There was something refreshing about that.

Needless to say, despite Felucia being an outer rim planet, it was not untouched by war, the Clone Wars to be more specific, but that was all in the past. Or at least, he hoped so.

Venge wore a very flimsy top that did little to cover his bulging muscular frame, it was too hot and too humid to wear anything else. The large man approached and listened to the crew talk about their options now that they were on Felucia.

Stunno reported that the ship would need a new stabilizer. Venge was hardly surprised.

Doctor T’Rani spotted a settlement nearby and Ny’ll detected some kind of signal.

If this place had a hidden listening post, then someone already knew they were here on the planet. The question was who? Venge made a face, but only for a moment.

'It’d better not be Imperials'. He thought gruffly.

Keia as always, was very efficient. She’d brought up a map with locations and a neat ‘X’ to mark their spot.

“What do you want to do?” She asked.

Venge realized that everyone was going on like business as usual, and that was good. He did not blame them. That’s how he preferred things anyway, yet still, certain things had to be said. Because…the Alliance.

“We live to fight another day, well done. The Galiceno has a good crew on her hands.” He stated simply, eyeing each one of his fellow crew mates.

    'Alright, enough of that'.

“As for where we should go first, I say we go here, to the settlement.”

Venge pointed a meaty finger on the spot.

“We can determine who was here, for how long, and what goods are available, if any. If there’s someone there, then all the better.”

The large man took a look over his shoulder after a pause, then looked back.

“We need to make the bacta delivery as soon as possible. The more we delay, the more people suffer.”

Well, THAT was one way of putting it.

“I’m just not sure if we should leave the ship unguarded.”

    That was a real concern.

Venge grew quiet and waited for the others to give their opinions.

T'Rani smiled and nodded at Venge's statement both about going to the settlement and the bacta. "A lone guard would not be very safe, I think," T'Rani observed. "So, who goes and who remains behind?" She paused. "Both aspects of our objective are vital, I need hardly say. Whoever is more likely to be able to acquire what we need by technical knowledge and interacting with any natives who happen to be in the settlement."

At last firm ground. She hated space combat so Nyll was grateful that she could sense soil under her boots. It was warm and humid like most jungles. The initial lack of sounds was replaced by a chorus of different animals chirping, crying making noise. They must have been scared away by the ship at first but now that the danger had passed it was back to normal.

She knew a bit about the planet. It was once the headquarters of the Commerce Guild, so there could be stuff to be looted, stuff that could be useful for the Alliance. “I volunteer for the settlement.” she grinned as she was a people’s person and could be useful there as opposed to staying on-board the ship.

Keia and Stunno listened to the statements of the others.

Venge congratulated the crew on their work so far. That was appreciated by all. Then he suggested the settlement, but that someone should stay with the ship.

T'Rani approved, but made the good point they would need someone technical with them - as well as ensure the ship and its precious cargo was safe.

Nyll volunteered for the settlement. Her "people skills" might be vital.

Stunno said, "I can stay behind. Plenty of repairs to be getting on with. Anyone coming into this cave and seeing me will probably think they met a wampa!"

He chuckled. "A bit hot here for me anyway. And don't worry, I got Jasper to call out for help in an emergency."

Keia nodded then looked around the group. "Then let's try the settlement first..."

    Marooned on Felucia

Venge, Ryll, T’Rani and Keia set off for the settlement, while Stunno stayed behind with Jasper at the Galiceno.

The moist humidity clung to the explorers as they followed a river east before turning south. The spores that clogged the soupy air irritated their sinuses. The constant buzz of the native fauna rose and fell.

The technicolour jungle gave way to more level, clear lands, and soon the unmistakable mark of civilisation. Fungus trees had been cleared. Crops were ordered in neat rows of irrigated fields.

Eventually they saw the settlement itself. Dome-shaped dwellings that looked almost like giant mushrooms clustered around a taller hall. A water tower nearby on stilts. The rebels took cover amongst some giant turquoise ferns and surveyed the farming village. While the buildings looked hardy, and certain agricultural devices in the crop fields signalled the residents were not totally untouched by the technology of the galaxy, there was no obvious space port, and no sign at all of any starships.

Then they caught sight of some of these residents, slowly riding into the village on the back eopies. They were humanoid but rounded and docile. They looked tired.

T’Rani’s equipment picked up nuclides in the air. The trace amounts were not threatening to sentients only staying as short as they intended, but she wondered at their presence – like someone had failed to clear up after an old war. She looked at the fields of crops. They did not look that healthy to her, compared to the rampant fungus trees.

Ryll noticed something, also. She pointed at black scorch marks on a wall of the larger hall and said to the team, “Blaster burns?”

Keia said to Venge, “They look harmless enough. Shall we approach them?”

    Unknown Settlement, Felucia

Venge was already covered by a sheen of sweat, his barely-there top was equally drenched. He thought he’d be used to it by now, but sweating had been annoying while working at the arid LZ back on Jedha; it was no less annoying now, except that he chuckled a bit at the memory, which did make it all less annoying in retrospect.

The group walked in understandable silence, conserving what energy they could during their journey. Venge was inwardly grateful for Keia’s map. Getting lost in the technicolor jungles of Felucia wasn’t likely a pleasant experience.

The trip felt longer than it actually was due to the heavy humidity of the local climate.

It therefore came as no surprise that the first structure noticed by the large man upon reaching the settlement was the Water Tower. That was the building that held Venge’s focus at the moment, though he did notice the other structures as well.

Off-hand, he could not recognize which race the native inhabitants belonged to, but ironically, he was quite familiar with their beasts of burden.

Ryll picked up on blaster burns along a wall. Venge narrowed his eyes and noticed the angle, then followed the trajectory.

“Good eye.” he said with a nod. “Let’s come back an take a closer look after we're settled.”

Those marks might look ‘harmless enough’ as Keia pointed out, but Venge knew better. It was always a mistake to ignore potential signs of violence, or their aftermath.

    As for proceeding….

“Yeah, let’s move, and let’s hope they have clean drinking water. Lots of it.”

The vegetation on the planet was gorgeous but it can cause you a headache. The spores did not help things either. She hoped there were no dangerous animals lurking there waiting to strike at them. ’You have seen too many horror-flicks’ Nyll thought amused.

If the stories were true, the most famous Twi’Lek Jedi Knight, Aayla Secura, was killed here. The irony. ’Enough with the morbid thoughts’ she pushed them away as they approached a settlement. Finally, the distraction she needed, also it will bring relative safety from any predator.

The locals looked odd, also the blaster burns. There was something wrong going around here. Her anxiety returned, but she managed to control it and prevent it to turn into a fully blown panic attack. She pointed them at the group and the Grumpy Man complimented her on her eyesight. As if they were hard to notice.

“Maybe I should do the talking?” she smirked at her companions.

T'Rani glanced at Nyll. "Fine by me." She also noticed the blaster scorch marks and hoped things stayed calm at least until their reparis were finished. "I am picking up trace elements of something in the atmosphere that could become toxic if we linger more than a couple days, the residue of whatever detonated here lately."

Venge made a sound between a chuckle and a 'harrumph'.

"Yea, you do the talking." He agreed with the Red Twi'lek, because talking really wasn't his thing. "Just don't forget to ask about drinking water." He reminded.

His gaze then turned to the doctor.

"Toxic...?" He repeated, his eyes narrowing. So, she was urging them not to stay for too long, out of fear of prolonged exposure.

"Toxic to just us or the natives? What about...." One large arm gestured towards the colorful jungle.

Venge kept his gaze on the doctor, as he waited for an answer. Toxic and hazardous pollution of a planet's atmosphere was not something to take lightly, or just casually ignore - unless it was happening to Imperials, of course.

This trip was becoming more complicated before it even started. They didn't have the parts they needed to leave Felucia, either way.

T'Rani considered the question and the data. "It's the residue of detonated explosives mingling with the flora and other growing things. That's probably why those crops are so scraggly looking. The inhabitants here probably have an immunity naturally or are inoculated through vaccines. We should be fine like I said for a couple days, and any time indoors should extend that window."

The large man nodded at the doctor as he considered the information he just received. This could be part of something bigger and he didn't much like that thought.

"We should update the Alliance once we return to the ship." He said with a nod to the doctor.

    "Red. Lead on."

That last bit was directed at the Twi'lek. Nyll.

Keia hung back as Nyll, Venge and T'Rani lead the way to the village. They were soon spotted by the locals working in the fields. Others emerged from the buildings. They were short in stature, with thick legs and four-fingered hands. They had elongated heads with reptilian faces, similar to that of a tortoise, and they were plodding and docile. Their skin varied in tone from orange to light green. The crew of the Galiceno soon had quite an audience.

The Felucians stared, curious, and obviously scared. But they were not hysterical - they were not the first offworlders they had ever encountered. They seemed particularly wary of Venge. Keia sympathised. He wore a ferocious visage along with his muscular, columnar physique. She was glad they hadn't brought Stunno.

Some Felucian children pointed at Nyll, who was taking the lead. Keia heard some of them whisper, "Akazu! Akazu!"

Finally they reached the main building and a Felucian approached them. The way the rest of them parted and waited, it seemed he was their leader. He halted before Nyll and they faced each other.

"Greetings," he said in Basic. His voice was aged but kind. "I am Dosiss, Healer of this village. We are simple people, I am afraid, and have little to offer you." He eyed their weapons warily. "Who are you and what brings you to this place?"

Venge was indeed the tallest among the group, and cut a fearsome figure by design- it was tailored to intimidate Imperials, but had the added bonus of working on everyone else.

The tall man couldn’t help it as he sighed and simultaneously rolled his eyes.

‘Not this again’ He grumbled inwardly.

Mistakenly, Venge tried to affect a tight smile which only made him look as if he was happy to see something good to eat. Thankfully, he hadn’t advanced. But was now making strange head motion to the side as if something was wrong with his neck.

What he was really trying to do was ‘nudge’ Nyll to engage the ‘native’ who very conveniently spoke good basic.

In a few moments, if no results were evident, Venge would ‘gently’ shove the Red Twi’lek in front of the diminutive felucian.

Venge's level of thirst was beginning to dictate his actions.

Nyll grinned at his comment about the water, but froze in place at the mention of toxicity. Oh no, poor guys, though the anxiety in her rose a bit from the idea that they did not have much time before it starts to affect them too. They were approached by a weird looking man, woman? She hoped she would not offend them by giving them the wrong pronoun. Some species were touchy in that regard.

At first she was puzzled why they looked scared then realized that Venge probably was the source of their fear. He nudged her, as if she needed that, Nyll gave Dosiss a warm smile “I am Nyll and these are my companions.” she presented each of them “We are not asking much, we require drinking water as the trek here left us parched.”

Dosiss nodded his head. "Of course. We can offer a little food, too. Perhaps in return you can tell us of events in the wider galaxy? We are quite cut off here."

He gestured to the large building and turned, motioning for the visitors to follow. Some watching Felucians muttered "Akazu," again. Dosiss halted and chuckled.

"You will have to forgive us. We are superstitious people. We know of the Twi'lek people but have not seen one of your beautiful colour before."

He cupped his long chin with his hand and then seemed to make a decision. He pointed behind them in the sky. A large red moon had climbed above the horizon.

"You have arrived under a Blood Moon Rising, the goddess Akazu," he said. "It is rare in this season. We think of it as an ill omen; bringing death and destruction," he looked at them with round eyes. "I hope this does not become true."

Then he plodded on toward the large building. As you follow him inside to a modest hall, Felucians bring some plates of simple food, mostly vegetables.

On the way, T'Rani noticed a doorway into a chamber that they passed. It was filled with beds in the manner of a hospital, and these were occupied by injured, bandaged Felucians.

Good thing it was not that visible when she blushed from his comment about her skin color. She then frowned at the superstition, but bit back a retort, after all she did not want to offend these kind people.

Venge kept his eyes peeled, constantly looking for any signs of the Empire, no matter how small, mechanical, scorch marks, or other- any sign whatsoever.

He followed along silently and simply grunted in gratitude for the food and began to stuff his face. Clearly, he was a lot hungrier than he'd anticipated. He didn’t even bother to ‘taste’ the food. He was long past caring about flavor. At this point in his career, if it kept you alive and didn’t our right kill you, he’d eat it.

Listening about the Red Moon and local superstition, his brows knotted for a second. Legends like these were usually based on different- yet similar events that had been changed in the constant re-telling of said event. Of course, in his mind, he immediately thought of the Empire.

Nyll had made a face at him and he ‘mocked-glared’ back at her and kept on eating. If the Alliance ever wanted him dead, they'd probably go with Red.

    Venge shrugged to himself.

He did suppose it was good that the doctor was asking about the sick. It was only natural, he surmized, but whatever she found out about the sick Felucians, could probably help them and the Alliance as well.

Venge did notice that Keia was quiet. That raised a bit of concern, as she was not usually interactive unless the issue was technical in nature, so he decided to keep an eye on her for the time being.

Then suddenly, Venge began to cough. It was a loud and unpleasant sound. The big man made a fist and pounded his chest several times with audible *thuds* reverberating inside his chest cavity. Then he uttered a single word with a belch.

    “Stabilizer”

The man rolled his eyes then belched a second time for effect. He smiled unapologetically, but did ask politely:

    “Water please...”

T'rani glanced sharply at Venge, worried he was having an anaphylactic reaction to the food. She checked her bio-scanner but didn't find anything too worrying, except maybe something going down the wrong way? Or the food was too dry to eat without liquid accompaniment?

She took a few bites of the dish she was proffered and paused. No ill effects.

Nyll took the negotiation lead and achieved an apparent positive impression with the Felucians. Dosiss lead them towards the main building.

Keia followed on close behind, impressed. She was not a great speaker, especially with strangers. She was more confident calculating hyperspace coordinates. But she had been quite charmed by the Felucians. They showed friendliness and had kind faces and voices. From their appearance at least, they were quite peaceful.

While Nyll chatted with Dosiss, Keia was observing. The buildings were made in a traditional style with local materials, but the farming equipment looked modern. Yet they were riding around on eopies? It was true that in some climates machines could break down and live mounts were more reliable, but despite the heat and spore-laden air, she did not think that to be the case here. She considered this quietly.

Maybe the Felucians were a culture resistant to change. That would suit their passive and plodding demeanours. So, that asked the question about the agricultural equipment. Perhaps this had been forced on them, by the environmental conditions… or something else? Keia did a mental calculation on the fields and the size of the settlement. They were toiling on more than enough for their population. Was this a market town?

Overriding these incidental observations, Keia searched for any sign of a starship, landing area, or even old parts workshop. She did not see anything likely to hold a spare fuel core stabilizer.

    They entered the main building.

T’Rani said to Dosiss, "Healer Dosiss, I'm a healer where I come from. My name is T'Rani, and I noticed a room with injured Felucians? Have you recently undergone a conflict, or was there an accident or unfortunate turn in the weather?"

Dosiss shifted uncomfortably at this. He lowered his voice and said, “I had thought you might be a fellow healer, T’Rani.” He pointed to her beautiful cerulean hair. “The Aoizu is the Blue Moon, and goddess of healing and life.”

He glanced back to the room of patients and sighed. “Let us eat, then I will explain. I hope you can help us.”

The crew of the Galiceno proceeded to the small hall and began to eat, and drink. It was indeed simple vegetarian fare.

Venge stuffed his face and drowned his thirst. A seasoned soldier knows to always take the opportunity; you never know when the next one will come. Keia hesitated but at a sign from T’Rani that all was safe, began to eat, too. It was fresh and delicious. Venge had a noisy coughing fit, but Keia realised it was a strong hint to Nyll, reminding everyone why they were here.

Nyll was taking her time, however, as the skilled negotiator. She said to Dosiss, “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but what happened here?”

Two of the Felucians that were bringing food bowls and water jugs halted and exchanged a look. All eyes turned to Dosiss. He sighed.

“We are suffering under the heel of the Empire. You can see we have little to offer – or plunder. But it is difficult for me to speak without first knowing your purpose. I am sure you did not land in this out-of-the-way place just for a drink of water…”

“We are suffering under the heel of the Empire.”

For the sake of the others, Venge looked away as anger washed over his face like a crimson tide. The Empire. His hated enemies, bringing suffering to others- again. This is why he joined the Alliance in the first place. To stop the Imperial murder machine.

Still, Venge did not allow his emotions to get the best of him. He’d learned that lesson the hard way. Who was to say that 'Dosiss the Healer' was not an Imperial Agent? Not necessarily by choice. After dominating a world, the Empire would set-up a local figure to manage things on their behalf, preferably someone that looked like the natives and enjoyed a position of power.

Experience had taught Venge it was always best to be cautious, as the group did not know enough about what was really going on here on Felucia.

“We need parts for our ship.”

Venge blurted out suddenly as he eyed the Felucian healer carefully. Dosiss didn’t need to know which part they actually needed, at least not yet.

    ’Time for quid pro quo’

Nyll pursed her lips “We are not here to plunder.” she tried to reassure the healer “Our ship was damaged by the Empire while we were on a humanitarian mission.” that was bending the truth a bit, but the essence was what mattered “We needed a safe place to land and start repairs.” she continued “We were hoping to find a replacement part for our ship, my friends can explain better the technical part of it.” Nyll smiled and gestured to Keia.

Dosiss looked from Venge to Nyll, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Parts for your ship? damaged by the Empire? Oh dear, oh dear..."

At Nyll's urging, Keia tried to explain. "It's, uhhh, called a fuel core stabilizer. It's quite a simple component really, just a long metal rod of a special alloy. Old ones are fine as there's no working parts..."

Keia saw Dosiss' blank face and stalled. She looked to the others and bit her lip.

Dosiss lowered his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "You are in danger here. This is an Imperial-controlled world. There is a garrison, has been since the Clone Wars. It is greatly reduced recently - perhaps you know why?"

"Dosiss, enough!" said another voice. A female had arrived with more water. "We cannot get involved in this."

    Dosiss nodded. "Yes, Agness."

He turned back to the group. "I am sorry. We cannot really help you. You see we have no starships here, and we have our own problems."

He sighed. "Healer T'Rani, you asked about the injured? Stormtroopers came and hurt us. They do this sometimes. We are forced to harvest crops for them. The nysillin doesn't grow here anymore, nothing grows well since the old war, except the fungus forests..."

“The Empire again. It never fails.”

Venge rolled his eyes and threw up his hands in the air as a truly mirthless laugh erupted from him.

“We’re done here.” He declared with finality. He turned around, giving the Felucian’s his back. They were right. Venge and his group would only bring them trouble. He’d witnessed this scene play itself out more times than he cared to count.

The large man moved close to Keia and hovered in her personal space, speaking in a low voice.

“The other settlement we saw. That could be the garrison he spoke of.”

Looking back, Venge made a circular motion in the air with his hand, signifying that everyone should hurry and make ready to depart. But he didn’t actually ‘pressure’ them to leave- seeing how the Felucian Healer was willing to give them some last minute intel. Clearly, they were not pleased with the Empire either.

“We need to alert the Alliance.” Venge added, his voice even lower as he spoke.
