This looks really good...

 

Was not that excited about this, but the last trailer looks hella ( yes hella) good.

 

The buzz does seem to be a bit underwhelming at this point, but the marketing has been anything but sparse. Between the trailers, TV spots, and the extended video it rivals the typical Star Wars movie just a week before release in terms of minutes of footage shown, even discounting all of the reused scenes. I've already seen some people wondering if WB was treading into BvS territory in terms of showing too much.

This may pull another Wonder Woman, have good legs driven by word of mouth instead of exploding out of the gate.

 

I'm pretty underwhelmed by it. It doesn't look bad, just a bit boring to me. Maybe it's superhero fatigue. But this will likely be the first DCU one I don't see on the opening weekend.

I tried to get my mom’s boss’ sons interested in seeing this.

Me: “Are you going to see Aquaman next month?”

Sons: - silence -

Son 1: “Um, he’s DC right?”

Me: “Yes.”

Sons 1 and 2: “Naaah. We only see Marvel movies.”

Me: “Got it.”

I want to make a point to see this, because it looks like great fun, and it’s almost Peter David’s Arthur so that is a win. Maybe I can see it before work opening day.

@cerealbox - Graham McTavish is Atlan. I forgot what footage I was watching over the last day (trailer?) but that is who is he playing.

Me: Beyond Aquaman, Black Manta etc. I am jazzed to see Dolph Lundgren ride a sea creature...because it just sounds so wonderfully cheesy.

 

Another thing to remember with the marketing of Aquaman is how much of a factor word of mouth may play even prior to it's US release. The social media embargo lifts less than a week from now and the review embargo a full 10 days before it's US opening. Between those two dates it will have opened in China and there are quite a few early viewings being held stateside as well. If it's as good as WB seems to think it is there will be plenty of opportunity for the buzz to ramp up going into it's US opening.

Just an observation.
I find it funny that newer superheroes film put all their big villains in the first film, rather than spread them out in sequels, like older films.

Aquaman: Ocean Master, Black Mantis, Nereus

 

Julie Andrews is voicing a big fish.

Also, I had insomnia last night and had a thought in my head that Aquaman's theme was similar to some majestic underwater music in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only... I need to go check that out. (It's good music, this is not a complaint)

YO! So there's an extended IMAX preview (mostly some scenes + the last trailer I think) in front of The Crimes of Grindlewald and HOT DAMN does this look good. I mean, for reals, yo.

 

Aquaman is on pace to open at $90- 95M in China this weekend. That will be a record for DC property.
