Vick... okay, the man did his time, paid his dues, and came out of the ordeal a genuinely reformed man that has become an advocate against animal abuse and lobbied legislators for stronger laws against it. I no longer have a problem with the guy.

I still have a problem with him. It actually bothered me when the Jets signed him. But to each, their own.

 

And you know what? That's fair. Each person will form their own opinion about him, based on their own viewpoints surrounding the justice system. I personally hold the belief that the purpose of the criminal justice system is to reform, not punish, and therefore if one is truly reformed, they should not continue to suffer lifelong consequences from society such as being shunned or denied access to jobs and such. But not all people see it that way, and that's fine.

 

Honestly, I think the problem there is not that Stroud mentioned them...but why.

I can totally get why Vick and Watson would inspire Stroud. It is a similar style of play to his own, and on-field success he wants to have.

The problem...is Stroud is not looking beyond the field...that is the red flag. If he was, he either would not say that, or, he would caveat the statement with "well, for purely on the field inspiration, I think Vick and Watson are examples of the performance I would like to achieve and surpass."

But he is young, inexperienced with interviews, and clearly narrow on perspective.

Wasn't the NFLPA creating a "school" for potential draftees on how to deal with this kind of stuff?

No doubt the team that drafts him will spin that with their PR team right quick.

 

He did caveat that in his actual answers-- he said Vick inspired him growing up and had an underrated pocket game (CJ doesn't love to run), Watson for his play style, and then said Joe Burrow for essentially his ability to be cool under pressure.

Abysmal to say the words "I look up to Deshaun Watson" in 2023 and yeah hopefully he learns from that.
