Hi, i'll be working on a test clip of the "180 camera turn effect thingy" from the tut on the Creative Cow site. Now, this tutorial calls for a "stitched 360 degree background". I know my digital camera can stitch pictures together, but i would prefer to do it in post because i just would. So, is there any way to do this "stitching" in Photoshop (version 3.0), AE, or some freeware program (WinMorph perhaps?)?

    Thanks, Althegreat

You can do this with Ulead's Cool 360 Tool.
    Trial version here

    alright, kewl.

Are there any other methods out there?

(just because i need to do this at least twice...once on the test clip, then once on the finished project, which will not be within 15 days of eachother.)

You can also do it with Icarus, which has been mentioned in several threads lately. You can download it for free from their website:

You can do it in Photoshop, if you have the time and patience. I've done it. It took a long time since it was several dozen still from my GL-1, but the control and care you can put into it really help it turn out great. Basically you just copy and keep pasting into an extremely wide PSD and position them so they match and then softly erase away what you don't need. Plus, you get the nice advantage of being able to photoshop out stuff you don't want (in my case, a watering hose across the patio and bench). Anyway, here's my results doing it this way:

QuickTime VR of my back yard

A huge JPG of the image I stiched in Photoshop before it gets converted to VR.

It may not be the easiest or fastest way, but I personally like to take the time.

I used Photoshop to stich 6 images together to create a panorama, and had to add and remove whole chunks in some areas and recreate a road where it didn't line up properly, all my pics were taken handheld as well, so it can be done, but it did take me a little while.

Shooting tip: When you take your pictures, try to aim for a reference amrker in each image that you can use to line them up afterward, I used road signs, distant tall buldings etc.

A tripod would probably help too :)

This link has a free trail for photo stitching that is very, i repeat, very easy to use. I used this program to produce the background for the same 180 degree matrix effect. Make sure you add motion blur to it so that when it pans it looks realistic.

I used PanoTools to which you need to add the free PT GUI coz its mostly a command line program...

I did THIS in it (my studio)

Hey, I found another program, freeware, called The Panorama Factory. Easy program that does all the stitching for you.

BTW, yours was cool too Zap!

Master Zap, yours is cool too... but the blank spaces in the pic TOTALLY detract from the coolness.. but I love your studio!
