Machiavelli aka one of the most easily misunderstood “popular” philosophers.

I’ve never heard so many people misunderstand one work as much as I have The Prince. Which isn’t to say I’m some genius, but a lot of people read the Prince and only look for the “where does he say you have to kill people and it’s okay” part that they miss the nuances of how Machiavelli discusses raising a populace...
