Before the order to "shelter in place" occurred, my wife and I were planning to see The Invisible Man, followed up by Mulan. I had tickets to see Mulan tomorrow, so that's a bummer to think about. IIRC, New Mutants would have been next up after Mulan.

Man, that was overly optimistic lol.

But hey! In just 3 months I've exceeded my entire 2020 theatre viewings. I might not get my usual 35-40 movies this year, but I'll do a decent amount at least.

    Here's the tally so far-

    Raya and the Last Dragon
    Godzilla vs. Kong
    Mortal Kombat
    Wrath of Man
    Nobody
    Cruella
    A Quiet Place Part 2
    In the Heights

I'm still in for Dune this October if it gets anything approaching decent reviews.

Since theaters started reopening, I've watched everything that got a wide release and the majority of limited releases. I was especially happy to get a chance to watch The Battle at Lake Changjin in a theater as it is the #1 box-office hit worldwide so far this year and likely to stay that way unless SMNWH can overtake it (the industry will count it as a 2021 release even if it makes much of its total in 2022)

I wasn't get vaccinated 'til April, and even after that I waited a couple more months before returning to the theater, so I didn't actually start going to the theater again until July of this year.

Thus far, on the big screen, I've seen the following:

    Black Widow
    Pig
    The Green Knight
    The Suicide Squad
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    The Many Saints of Newark
    Venom: Let There Be Carnage
    Lamb
    Dune
    The Last Duel
    Last Night in Soho
    Antlers
    Eternals
    Spencer
    The French Dispatch
    House of Gucci

    16 total so far.

Usually, in a normal, non-pandemic year, I probably average somewhere between 20-30 trips to the theater. I aim to see The Tragedy of Macbeth (if it releases locally), Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Matrix: Resurrections, and Spider-Man: No Way Home theatrically before the year is over, so I guess that should put me just at/over 20 this year as well.

My at home list for the year includes the following:

    Judas and the Black Messiah
    Space Sweepers
    Willy's Wonderland
Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time
    Godzilla vs Kong
    No Sudden Move
    Fear Street 1994
    Fear Street 1978
    Fear Street 1666
    Demonic
    Mad God
    Malignant
    Halloween Kills

13 total so far (will be 14 this week, when I get a chance to sit down and watch The Power of the Dog).

The last film I saw in a theater was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The last Star Wars film I saw in a theater was Revenge of the Sith. I doubt I'll ever go to a movie theater again.

This year so far, only Black Widow. But I will see Spider-Man: No Way Home in a couple weeks.

    2020, didn’t see any.

2019: Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Star Wars Rise of Skywalker.

My 2020 theater viewings were obviously cut very short for me for obvious reasons. Last year the only movies I actually saw in the theater were Underwater, Little Women (2019), The Thing (1982), and 1917 (2019). Of those, only Underwater was even a 2020 release.

Last September, long before I ever had any intention of returning to an actual theater due to COVID, I did go to a drive-in to catch a double feature of Tenet and 42 (2013) from the safety of my car, however.

Since then I've seen 18 more movies, bringing the total to 26. Movie-going scene is pretty much back to normal around here; like most places showings for No Way Home filled up really fast.

Here's the rest of what I've seen

    Black widow
    The Green Knight
    Free Guy
    Jungle Cruise
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    The Card Counter
    Copshop
    The Eyes of Tammy Faye
    Venom: Let There Be Carnage
    No Time To Die
    The Last Duel
    Dune
    Howl’s Moving Castle
    Eternals
    Last Night in Soho
    The French Dispatch

Starting in March 2020 my weekly visits went down significantly but still went, it was New Mutants, and The Empire Strikes Back. Saw Tenet at the drive-in.

Early June theatres were still closed so I saw Quiet Place II at the drive in (fun fact, Jim from the Office came up on screen and said how great it is to be in the theatre, I'm in a car buddy) Starting in July (right when my two weeks vaxed kicked in) I got in 1 theatrical movie a month. July: Black Widow {which was technically my 3rd viewing, watched it at 3AM when it dropped on D+Premiere access a few weeks earlier but I'll be damned if it was the only MCU movie I didn't see in theatres} & August: The Suicide Squad, Sept: Shang-Chi. and then upped it to twice a month, maybe 3 for Oct, Nov. (Venom: Let there be Carnage, No Time to Die, Dune, Eternals, Ghostbusters: Afterlife). Two more stops to go in December, No Way Home & Matrix Resurrections. Rest waiting for VOD, which takes only a month and a half now max.

First trip back to the theater for me in almost two years and it was a wonderful experience. We even saw it in IMAX which was neat. The sound mix is brilliant.

My final number for last year was 30, so I was about right with this prediction.

Here's the last few I saw rounding out the year-

    Licorice Pizza
    West Side Story
    Spider-Man: No Way Home
    The Matrix Resurrections
    The King’s Man

By all indications I'll be back to normal viewings this year, barring total societal collapse or something.

Only saw Dune and Ghostbusters Afterlife in 2021. The pandemic made me choose films carefully, and those were the ones I really wanted to see. With the current spread of the virus I'm not going back to the theater any time soon.

Final stats for the pandemic years:

    -2020: 7 films (1 rerelease of a classic film), 5 in IMAX.
-2021: 35 films (6 rereleases of classic films, 7 if you count Rocky vs Drago) across 44 theatrical viewings (compared to 61 viewings in 2018), at least 26 of which were in IMAX.
