Well then I'd point out that Trump lost the popular vote, and is currently supported by a political system that gives disproportionate power to sparsely populated conservative states.

If Trump is something that's inherent to American culture, then why didn't such a figure appear on the political scene until now? No, he came about because the Republicans radicalized themselves over the past few decades and have been waging a concerted propaganda campaign, and Democrats have been utterly incompetent in countering that propaganda. This is a contemporary political phenomenon, not something baked into our DNA...just like how Nazism isn't baked into Germany's DNA either.
