Poetry is my first love, and I finally got up the courage to post this little poem. Thank you for reading.

    I am a Shadow Dweller

    I am a desert dweller.
I do not know of rain or snow.

I know the softness of a mother?s touch,
Not the firmness of a father?s loving tone.

I feel a thousand suns blaze within me,
I feel my soul expand, take flight.

I do not love the darkness
Though it?s there I feel at home.

Can no one see the difference?
Can no one tell I burn?

The light, it does not love me,
Though it would embrace me if I chose.

My soul must dwell in shadow,
The shadows over take me, and swallow me up whole.

Is there nothing left to save me?
    Is there nothing good inside?

I lose my grip on that ray of light,
    And plummet to the end.

    I am a shadow dweller,
I do not know of hope or light.

    LukeTheMan-
=D= Wonderful and deep immagery that perfectly invokes the complexity of the Anakin/Vader character! :)
    Thank you.

I really liked this poem, LukesTheMan, and I'm glad you had the courage to post it. For you and for us :) I like poetry though I'm not the best at writing it. Do post more if you write some!

I had to read this poem twice just because I thought it had such great little images and thoughts. I wanted it to really sink in.

I liked these lines a lot:

I do not love the darkness
Though it?s there I feel at home.

Can no one see the difference?
Can no one tell I burn?

The idea that Anakin realises these feelings are killing him but can't stop it is really sad. It adds a layer to his story and I think makes it more personal. Because he's not an ineherently mean or evil person. He's just like a lot of us.

I also really liked the opening and closing, the repetition relating being a desert dweller and a shadow dweller. Images of deserts tend to bring up thoughts of loneliness and despair, which is what I associated that with. And then of course the image of shadows is a great one that's quite prevelant in SW. In this poem, I got the feeling of Anakin speaking out of the shadows, but being afraid to pull away from them for so many reasons.

    Lovely poem :)

It's amazing how so much can be said with so few words.

I'm not very good with poetry and do not understand a lot of it, (I usually have to reread it quite a few times to get the jist of it) but this was beautifully done! I understood it with one reading! :)

Looks like another oldie but goodie has been brought back to the top. I didn't have time to read all the other replies, so I'm sure I'm just echoing other people's sentiments, but oh well...great job! You know I love poetry too, so getting to read some great poetry is always nice. I especially like the contrasts in light and dark, considering he's from the land of two suns. Excellent work.
