How do they work? Do they generally serve free food? Do I have to buy something?

They do serve food. You don't have to buy, but they have some really neat stuff. My wife has the parties all of the time and she gets a % discount on things she buys since she hosted the party.

EDIT: FA, think Tupperware party with kitchen supplies. The stoneware bakery rocks!

You shouldn't have to buy anything, but they are somewhat similar to the olden-days of "Tubberware Parties." There should be products for cooking or food products that you can buy to use when cooking.

I've been invited to a few of those and they can be fun, but I never went. No money, no time ... [face_plain]

You don't HAVE to buy anything but you will feel guilty if you don't.
    They normally cook some food.
They will show you a bottle of parmisan cheese filled with ceiling insulation to prove their point about cellulose in your food and how you should make it all yourself.

People keep saying it's like a Tupperwear Party or a Mary Kay Party, but having never been to either, that doesn't really help.

I might go, though. If there's free food, and cheap stuff I can buy.

Their lots of fun. I went to one at a friend of a friend's family house. There were games played and the best of all free food! But you dont have to buy anything if you dont want to, even though the host/hostess does get free gifts the more stuff that is bought.

It is like anything else, there are cheap things as well as expensive things.

Sounds like there's some occult involvement. I'd take weapons if I were you.

My wife swears by their stoneware. She doesn't use anything else if she doesn't need to.

As for the parties, I was dragged to one not too long ago, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The girl did product demos, which included food (a whole meal and dessert in this case). Of course, after that's all done you kind of feel pressured to buy something (well I would have, but my wife had a wish-list before she even got there).

Yeah, the ladies in our church have these parties on a monthly basis. My wife has a list and buys a little at a time.

Isn't "Pampered Chef Party" just a code phrase for a bunch of gals getting together, stripping down to their undies and having a pillow fight?

To sum it up you go to someone's house, eat small samples of stuff, think it's good, ask the price, die of sticker shock and don't buy anything, but still feel bad that you didn't buy anything.:p

To answer your question... You don't have to buy anything.

My wife has gone to a few. The stuff she bought was very nice and works great but it is expensive.

Well, I looked at their website and yeah, EXPENSIVE! But I saw a couple of things I could get on my budget.

It's my boss, so she knows how much I get, so she should be glad I'm buying anything at all!

You don't have to buy anything and they normally have some pretty good food. Plus, all the one's my wife has done or been to has had freebies of some kind for everyone.

    And the stoneware does rock!

They have these pot holders, I'm pretty sure you can handle molten lava with them.

My aunt sells the stuff and my mom usually buys it. Some interesting cooking items but way overpriced.
