I put in a few different sections from one of my original sci-fi stories, and I consistently got Kurt Vonnegut, but the last two sections I put in from the end of the story came back with Douglas Adams and Dan Brown respectively. Apparently, my style changed somewhere along the way. ;)

This is too much fun to play with. Must go do something constructive...

It told me I write like JK Rowling, James Joyce, and Margaret Atwood. Then, I tried one of my lesson plans and it said I wrote my lesson plans like James Joyce. Huh.

[/Shakes fist] Curse you, Face, for showing us another fascinating time waster!! I am so putting this on my wikispace.

I put in 6 different stories and got James Joyce for 5 of them (Kurt Vonnegut for the other). I'll admit I had no clue who that was, though after I looked him up I guess I should have... I certainly recognize some of his work.

    At least I seem to be pretty consistent! 8-}

I got Stephen King every time I put in an excerpt written in first-person. James Joyce for all the rest. I'm not sure I've ever read a book by either of them.

I put in three random, different chapters from my latest story, and it came up with three different names each time - James Joyce, Dan Brown and Mark Twain(!) The only author I've read out of those three is Mark Twain. I sincerely doubt Mr. Clemens, if he were still alive, would feel complimented by the comparison :p

I fed in three original fic vignettes which I felt had a very similar style and received...William Shakespeare, David Foster Wallace, and H. P. Lovecraft... (I'm particularly confused about receiving Lovecraft, because the entry I fed in was nothing close to horror, fantasy or science fiction...)

Then the SW fanfic I fed in (which I also felt was similar enough in style that a human might be able to guess it was by the same author) got Dan Brown...

In conclusion, I can't say I find this too reliable...

In Chapter 1 of Treason and Treaties, I have four different sections. Individually they were Dan Brown, Cory Doctorow, JD Salinger and JD Salinger. Together (sans divisions and markup codes), the chapter is Dan Brown. I've actually gotten a fair bit of Cory Doctorow, which I guess is pretty nifty. Also, an old paper on feminism and femininity in world literature before 1500 is apparently written like HP Lovecraft.

In some original fiction, I write a lot like Jane Austin, apparently. I also got some Raymond Chandler, Cory Doctorow, and Stephen King for my original fiction. Kurt Vonnegut for a poem

I stopped playing when Stephenie Meyer came up for one of my poems.

I'm just going to pretend I never saw that and the website doesn't know what to do with poetry.

Okay, just for a lark, I pasted some of "Anne of Green Gables" in the 'analyze' text box. (the entire stories are online, because they are no longer under copyright) It said Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote like.... CHARLES DICKENS! [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

EDIT - To be fair, I did a cut and paste from a Charles Dickens novel, too. The site actually got it right! :-B

    *tackles Wikipedia*

Ah! A Canadian dude that writes science fiction, appeared in xkcd, and one of whose short stories is called 0wnz0red.

    Hmm...

For "X-Wing: Genesis of a Rogue" I got Arthur C. Clarke
For "Why Does Daddy Have to Go" I got Stephen King (I couldn't disagree more with this pairing)
For "X-Wing: Rise of a Rogue" I got David Foster Wallace

I tried the prologues of each of the first three books of Wife of Deceit and got:

    Book 1: David Foster Wallace
    Book 2: HG Wells
    Book 3: Mario Puzo

I'm amused by the last one especially.

For Lest Ye Be Judged, which I think of as my defining fic, I picked four scenes:
    First scene: Arthur C. Clarke
Cross-examination of Luke Skywalker and same of Anakin Skywalker: Cory Doctorow
    Verdict: William Gibson

And on the polar end of things, my first Pink 5 fic:

    DOUGLASS ADAMS!
