Icons Thread -- Version 11: We can haz icons -- Round 49 -- 2.27.12

Welcome to the 11th version of the icon submission thread. I, NYCitygurl, am the current icon manager. My job is to not only take care of our current images, but also to facilitate and oversee the selection of new ones. These are created by icon artists around the forums, voted on, and then uploaded by me.

This thread serves as the community for icon makers and icon fans. Here, icon artists/makers post their icons for consideration. As one who creates icons, you should be critiquing each other's work, sharing ideas and comments, and generally participating to increase the quality of JC Icons as a whole. Even if you're not an icon maker, please feel free to stop in and share your thoughts or request icons!

Everyone is welcome to submit icons, though only people who contribute icons are invited to vote on which icons should be uploaded. Remember, ANYONE can submit an icon, just make sure it follows the rules below!



Becoming an Icon Maker

It's a pretty simple process. All you have to do is submit one eligible icon in this thread. Eligible icons are icons that are the correct size and either follow the content guidelines and can go up for a vote, or are special event icons (holidays, sports, etc.) that are uploaded. After you've submitted an icon, you'll get a PM from me and officially be considered an icon maker.

If you're interested in becoming an icon maker but don't know how to go about making icons, we have Icon Tutorials written by several icon makers for Photoshop and GIMP, a free program. If you're interested in submitting a tutorial, please post here or PM me.



The Voting Process

Once you become an icon maker, you're eligible to vote. Every 5-7 days, I'll post a voting round in this thread with about 30-40 icons. Pick the numbers of the icons you like and PM them to NatalieSock*, the icon voting sock.

Icon makers aren't required to vote, but I strongly encourage it. You can vote in whichever rounds you want (don't have to vote every round) and for however many icons you want, including your own. Voting rounds have a deadline, but in general, if I haven't posted the next round, I haven't started counting votes, so you can still vote after the deadline has passed.

Icons need 3 votes to get uploaded. I don't vote, but I reserve the right to upload icons that don't make the cut. Sometimes icons that fill gaps in our coverage, ones from unique and new sources, or ones with independent style will be overlooked, and at that time the icon manager can upload what she feels best serves the gallery. Icons with [REQ] next to them are requested icons. I urge you to pay special attention to them, though you are under no obligation to vote for them if you don't like them.


*Note: NatalieSock is JUST for icon votes. If you have a question or otherwise need to get ahold of me, post in this thread or PM my regular username. I only open PMs when I'm counting votes, so if you PM anything besides votes to the sock, it'll be a while before I answer.



Icon Maker Titles

If you submit 5 or more icons one week, you'll get an icon maker title for two weeks. If you post 5 more the next week, the two weeks will be reset. After you time is up, I'll remove the title until you submit more. Submitting more than 5 won't get you a longer duration, though I encourage you to do so.



Common Icon Questions

When is the next upload?
Soon! I try to upload every week, but delays can occur for a number of reasons, including but not limited to midterms, computer crashes, and illness. I will do my best to keep you informed, however. Harping on about when it's going to be won't get it done any quicker, it'll just be annoying. However, if I am legitimately really late, feel free to bug me about it.

Halloween icons: We've FINALLY finished going through all the current icons, and have cut it down to a bit under half. However, as it's Halloween season, I'm going to leave everything up, then take things down in November and sort everything out. If you'd like to take a look at the list, it's here (page 7 for 25ppp). Warning: It's pretty image heavy (1500 Halloween icons! )

I am taking new submissions this year and will upload them and put them in the "keep" pile (and that includes the ones in the old thread; I'll grab them). However, I'm going to be a bit more discriminating and not upload everything submitted, just so we don't get into having more that no one uses.


Older submissions: As witthe Halloween icons, I still have them around to grab them (and that includes the away icons that I'm just going to pick and upload, as per results of the informal survey). But please feel free to keep submitting more!!
