I just, within the last hour or so, read a one-shot story by @CaraJinn and was inspired to write this little piece you see below. It's a songfic, which I've only done once before. So...[face_nail_biting]

Title: If I Could Touch You

    Summary: Obi-Wan reminisces.

Author Note: Song by Steve Zell.

Disclaimer: George Lucas created Star Wars. Star Wars, LucasFilm Ltd. and all its content are currently owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company.

The first touch of their hands had lit a flame in his soul; a deep fire in his heart. The years between their first meeting and their next hadn’t changed a thing. The moment their eyes connected, he knew he still burned for her. He still loved her. He still craved the smell of her skin; flowers after a cleansing rain.

Love is a wind that cries

Drifting through the ashes of my memory

When I close my eyes, long ago is never far away from me

Through the door to yesterday and never more than a dream away

Inside my heart you still remain, just like a rose after the rain

”It’s…so good…to see you again, Obi-Wan, despite the circumstances,” Satine said softly.

“It is…wonderful to see you again as well,” he returned.

“I trust you have an escape plan then,” she quipped; a smirk on her lips.

    “As always, my dear.”

“You and Satine have a history,” Anakin commented lightly.

Obi-Wan nodded slowly. “An extended mission when I was younger. Master Qui-Gon and I were here on Mandalore for a year, protecting the duchess from insurgents who meant to kill her. Bounty hunters, other nefarious groups. We were always on the run, never sure what the next day would bring our way.”

    “Sounds romantic,” Anakin snickered.

She came to him in dreams now; dreams so vivid he could hear her voice as if she still stood next to him. In dreams, he could see her beautiful smile, but achingly could never feel her soft blonde tresses pass through his fingers. Dreams where her hands were only a whisper against his skin.

”I’m still not sure about the beard,” she said as she ran her fingers across his face.

    “Why? What’s wrong with it?”

“It hides far too much of your handsome face,” she said as she turned to walk away from him.

If I could touch you one more time

I’d take you where tomorrow couldn’t find us

Where we could leave goodbye’s behind us

And hold you till the day I die

If I could touch you one more, just one more time

So many years later, he could still recall the fear and the resolve he saw in her eyes as Maul held them both in his grasp. He could still recall his own as well. Some part of him forever raged in anger at losing her. He knew a part of him always would.

”Don’t listen to him, Obi,” she managed to choke out.

“Remember, my dear Obi-Wan, I’ve…loved you always,” she whispered, her hand tenderly caressing his anguished face. “I always will.”

So many memories. Too many to count, yet he knew, never enough. It would never have been enough. It never had been. He’d always wished for more; just one more memory of her to hold onto.

As he looked to the horizon, his eyes took in the suns as they dipped to the horizon. He could so clearly see the path before him, yet his mind and his heart kept his focus on the past. His own voice from long ago echoed in his ears.

”Had you said the word, I would have left the Jedi Order.”

Had he meant it? Yes. With his whole heart, he’d meant it. Meant it still. So many things he knew would have been different had she not been taken from him.

In his dreams she was alive, and vibrant. His dreams always brought her back to him. Someday, he knew, they’d be together again.

    Love is a silent song

Lost along the way to remember when

    Even though you’re gone

It sings deep in my soul and brings you back again

If angels can hear my prayers

Half past forever, I’ll be there

Life after life will light the flame

    With other faces, other names

If I could touch you one more time

I’d take you where tomorrow couldn’t find us

Where we could leave goodbye’s behind us

And hold you till I die

One more, just one more time

If I could touch you one more time

Ha, @CaraJinn gave you a great inspiration here.

    * feels like watching "Moulin Rouge" now, but has to work tomorrow

And yes, I watched the series, but your dialogues are taking place in a much more sexy and playful background.

What a beautiful but heartbreaking story, Jen!

That Obi-Wan would have left the Order is really something and shows his love for her.
This was probably my favorite part, so beautiful and sad.

The song really worked well for this story, I'm glad it was a song fic because it added to the emotion.

    Thank you!:)

Yes, she did. :D I kept hearing the music from Moulin Rouge in my head as I wrote rather than the song in the story. [face_laugh]

    Thanks kiddo.

    Thanks, Mav. :)

Very sweet piece, @JediMaster_Jen! You did a lovely job capturing Obi’s feelings of regret, reminiscence, and “what might have been.” The memory of something as simple as the lightest loving touch can mean so, so much, and you capture that feeling beautifully here. Obi-Wan does and feels nothing by halves; I don’t doubt that he would have left the Jedi Order out of love for Satine. Very nice job, and thanks so much for sharing. =D=
