The think I don't like about the Oldbie/newbie thing is that, ya newbies make some mistakes, but I don't see why an oldbie would know any more about star wars than a newbie, you know? For all you know, they could be the biggest SW geeks ever!

Being a newbie has nothing (or at least very little) to do with your knowledge of Star Wars. It's all about the boards. :)

Ups, you're right, Morgaine. Sorry, I mixed up the two versions of this sentence. [face_blush]
The one sentence was "If I had to ask, then I was probably still a newbie." and the other one is (translated) "As long as you are asking stupid question, you are a newbie."

Next time I should search that sentence. :p

    Sorry again, Julia! :)

Skiara, I thank you also. According to you or the adoption program, I am an oldbie and a newbie. I have less than 500 posts and have been here more than 4 months.

    nice touch whitehorse.

Can someone explain to me why some posters don't like
    "newbies"?

To be honest, looking at some of THEIR posts, I truly feel that they are the ones who are a little....no I won't go there....

I'm sure many new to this post probably have more SW knowledge than those who have been around for awhile !
I've noticed that many use TheForceNet strictly as a chat zone an say nothing about SW at all!

Usually "newbie" simply means new user or poster. But the term "noob" is often used to mean a new user who...well doesn't really behave all that well or is just being difficult.

Don't worry about it Zara. If anyone is particularly nasty to you on the boards you can always contact one of the moderators, managers or admins who is around.

    For example, me. ;)

"Usually "newbie" simply means new user or poster. But the term "noob" is often used to mean a new user who...well doesn't really behave all that well or is just being difficult."

True, but not always. I personally use "n00b" and "newbie" synonymously most of the time. So, if you see the word "n00b" somewhere, don't automatically assume it is meant as an insult. :)

"I've noticed that many use TheForceNet strictly as a chat zone an say nothing about SW at all!"

Most people originally came here to talk about Star Wars. But there's only so much you can say about the movies, and not everyone is interested in the books, games etc., so many users have moved on to other subjects by now. ;)

"Can someone explain to me why some posters don't like "newbies"?"

That is a very complex question and not easy to answer, but I think one reason is that especially in the busy forums like 3SA (the spoiler board) we get a lot of new posters each day, and many of them are a bit... over-enthusiastic ;) and start threads without checking if the subject has been discussed before. So if you've been here for a couple of months or years, you just get tired of seeing the same topics being brought up again and again and again. Unfortunately, people tend to generalize and think that all newbies are like that. This is certainly not the whole answer, but one reason for frustration and annoyances towards new users.

    You're welcome Zara. :)

Plus, what Morgaine mentioned about the term "newbie" and "noob" is also true. ;) Some people use both and mean the same thing...so, it's just the spelling then.

Oh, but I did get locked! Over at Your JC Community.
Newbies were being attacked - and I just wanted to stand up for us!
I was locked by a mod who I will not name...we exchanged several posts...where I "screamed" freedom of speech...etc...
One of the reasons he locked was that I had "newbie" in the title...

The mods have been most kind to me.
They have come to my rescue several times.
I posted over on the Spoilers a thread entitled"Why I am Like Jar-Jar..." Again I was trying to take up for the poor abused fellow....

And a fight broke out! Had nothing to do with JarJar.

...and then it really got nasty....I mean...nasty...
and I BEGGED a mod to lock it! He/she heard my prayer...

Another time on JW...someone did not like me and make some sexual comments....the mods rescued me then as well.

SO ....the mods have been patient and good to me...except for the one fellow...who could have had a postition with the German government from 1937-1945...
