If you make the weapons more powerful you don't end up dumbly running around ach other in circles. One hit kills with a saber should mean saber fights become a thing newbies don't dare attempt.. then the newbies will stick to guns as they should. When they get better or more daring they will be able to engage in saber fights with better blocking skills the only thing that would then keep you alive.
