Montie you have awesome taste in art. I mean that.
Thank you. And I like Brom too^. Elric is floating around this thread somewhere.
A D&D race known as Vaati or Wind Dukes. 7 feet tall, fly at will, various air related powers, androgynous, native to Greyhawk. Before D&D went 3.0 this appeared in the AD&D Montrous Annual Compendiums. This was one of the better images.
A line a fantasise which fits given SW going to Disney. Stealing utterly from Malificent: "Now shall you deal with me, Jedi. And all the powers of the Darkside!"
I went searching for interior art from AD&D Encyclopedia Magica. Very difficult to locate online. Ran across a Faust from Harry Clarke.
Well computer graphics ahve come a long way, have they not?
What I like here is the attack/flight pose by the largest pictured dragon.
A tiny sample of pencil drawings by Arnie Swekel who's work has been in every type of gaming for decades. I went looking for Encylopedia Magica stuff but found these items which I had never seen before.
I amnot 100% sure the top one is Rikus from Dark Sun, the bottom one is though.
Art for the cover of the book I am reading:
I like that, but what is it?
That's called "The Favorite" by Omar Rayyan, I think?
And so much more. There were many "blogspot" jpg's I'd love to post but they never last long before Red-X and I don't want to photobucket every damned thing I see.
We could use some Fred Fields in here...
What I like about Fred's work is that A: Yes, it's mostly semi-erotic, very hot ladies, B: He is an absolute master of the human form and of color/light interplay, and C: I met him once at Gen-Con.
I'll come back to Fred Fields. I looked for Micahael Whelam since I love that Black Sun Rising cover and find that he is one of those artists whose name slipped under my radar even though I have seen his art for decades.
He did a lot of Elric stuff too, and I like not one bit of it. Something about the bare white legs and bad poses just turns me off.
So, Fred Fields.
I could be wrong, but I always thought this depicted a Forgotten Realms Nether Scroll, but it winds up being something else entirely.
I didn't know this before I googled this stuff but he also did some badass western art:
Hawkeye vs Legolas thread reminded me of this cool ass pic from Ultimates:
Orcus. This is the D&D version of a rule rof Hell. the name is latin and has to do with a punisher of broken vows.
Dipping my toe into Wagner's Ring cycle of which my knowledge is only superficial at best. Donaldson's Thomas Covenant books are inspired by them as is apparently the Gap Cycle which I am currently reading.
And so this is a dwarf named Alberich who sought the Rhinemaidens. They deny him though playwoith and tease him. In anger he steels In anger he steals the Rhinegold but must renounce love to possess it. With it, he can have poiwer over the world.
Ever not have any concerns over a character until you see a really awesome piece of art of them?
A Hearty Welocme by Lawrence Alma-Tedema. It was commissioned by his doctor with that being his wife and daughter depicted dancing.
