I'm pretty sure the boards are the only real reason to continue to go there (regularly). Would I go there to look up the name of the movie or resumes of an actor? Sure. but it'd be in and out (that's what she said!). The message boards kept people there all day, creating multiple clicks for a single individual alone.

It is weird not having the IMDB forums anymore. But it's time had definitely come. It was worse than Mos Eisley in there.

 

I liked them.

Only visited on a case by case basis, every so often, but wasted some pleasant moments there.

 

I've gone to the Internet Movie DeBate message boards. AKA IMDB 2.0

I'd love to say my old IMDB name but I cursed like a sailor & said many nasty, Vile things I'm not to proud of. Maybe in a few months.

 

Don't feel bad. I did too.

 

Let's just say I'm trying to break bad habits since a few carried here. I'm also being watched like a hawk & rightfully so. All in eventual time when I'm trusted more by the mods.

Apparently I can't respond to your PM, it's locked. But I remember you. Good to see you again.

 

It's terrible that the boards got shut down. It was THE place to discuss films, tv shows, actors, directors, etc. It's irritating that there were a lot of trolls, but I was willing to take the good with the bad. I wish I would've saved my posts before the message boards went down.

 

IMDB's message boards had become one of the most worthless of the pointless internet argument forums. Good riddance, but it's a shame it couldn't be saved from itself, and it's a greater shame that it's integrating with facebook of all places. Like you're going to find less toxicity there. SMH.

It's been over two weeks now and it seems to have played out as I expected.

No mass migration to a properly moderated forum. The real attraction for the majority of posters there was the opportunity for obnoxious posturing and pseudo personalities to dominate an ostensibly mainstream forum. THE mainstream forum.

 

I see people complaining on IMDb's Facebook page about the loss of the forums, as if those are the only forums they've used and as if that was the only feature on the site. They keep trolling to say IMDB will fail now, etc. I use the site for movie information - the database - to look up people and titles, and it is my go-to site for theater showing listings. I don't have much experience in the main messageboards and only the ones that were on the entries for each person or movie and TV show. Those will not be missed at all. Every time I scrolled down to see them, it was with the thinking that I would see someone make an outlandish or clueless complaint or comment. They were poorly maintained and mixed up, not even chronological. There was also no kind of notification system as far as I could tell.
