Yeah I am not reading that. Thanks for the warning. It will definitely spoil me, in a way.

 

I actually did read it, and I agree with you completely about the media's culpability. They largely bankrolled his election campaign, and they have incorporated Trump into their business model to the extent that their success is completely intertwined with his. It's troubling and pathetic and ironic and comical and dangerous.

 

I don't think people remember that the 2000 election was "re-litigated" until... 2016. The reason is simple enough. The person who lost the popular vote won the presidency and did an awful job. No one was saying Bill Bradley would have won, but of course people are going to obsess over the anti-democratic method of selecting the president when it spits in their faces.

2016 is more complicated because there was a viable general election candidate who lost the Democratic primary. The country and the world are more obviously hurtling off a cliff than they were in 2000. It also helps that both Trump and HRC are more than happy to talk about it whenever they can.

 

On the topic of that Harris interview, the part which really jumped out at me was her exchange on Syria. Woodruff asks her about Syria, how she would differ from Trump. Her initial move is to just attack Trump saying he’s improving Russia’s position, etc., but the revealing part is when Woodruff pushes her and she essentially says that if she were president, the entire framework through which the media views the issue would be different and any decision she made would be correct. The implication is that Trump is not a “real” president but she would be, and that’s as far as the debate needs to go. Then Woodruff pushes her harder (gj PBS!) over whether she would use American forces to block a Turkish incursion and she has nothing, lol.

I wonder how much money she wasted focus-grouping “Justice Is On The Ballot”.

 

She was in a clear state of confusion in that interview. She even stumbled when asked the very basic question "why do you think you are the most qualified for the job?", which actually had already been asked precisely to her in the past.
About Syria, what I find incredible is the complete lack of curiosity of this people. For God sake, you are running for president, the actual president makes arguably one of the most controversial moves he has ever made on foreign policy, it ends up in the front page of all newspapers, don't you have at least the basic interest in wondering how you would have handled the situation?

It’s been funny to see the proliferation of donor-class-anxiety articles, each one advocating the need for a centrist candidate to oppose Warren and Sanders, as if the primary hasn’t already featured a dozen of them. It’s the epitome of the “Let me speak to the manager” mindset, like American society is a restaurant and they’re entitled to buy the outcome of their choice.
