In general, how do you create message boards in a website?

I'm not sure, this is the first website I've created. Is it Javascript or HTML? If so, what's the code?

Most (good) messageboards don't use strictly HTML. Some are CGI scripts, others are PHP, and there also are some ASP ones out there.

Depending on how much webspace you have, and how your website is set up, there are a few simple options. phpBB is a PHP-based messageboard that is quite popular, and isn't too hard to set up. If your host doesn't have what is necessary to host your own messageboard, you could set one up for free at ezBoard, or one of a number of sites that have free messageboard hosting. Be warned, ezBoards tend to have a lot of advertisements, unless you pay for a "Gold community".

If you have PHP capability and a SQL db on your website, I'd recommend phpBB. I just set up my own and not only is the initial setup very simple, but it loads extremely fast.
