I continue to check this board every couple of days, hoping to see an updated post. I hope you are doing well!

 

So glad to see you're updating again, LP!

 

Loving this story! Definitely an interesting turn with the miscarriage and seeming after-effects. Can't wait for more.

 

The writing is still fabulous, but just as I figured, the pregnancy was a short-lived plot device. In that regard, I'm highly disappointed.

 

Solo_Fan, let's see where LP takes this. It's not an easy thing to "use" a miscarriage as a "plot device," so I'm sure LP has her reasons. I'm upset the baby didn't make it, too, but I'll wait to see how this goes.

In any case, let's hope she updates this soon, so we know where it's going.

Sighs...yes, I know it's been a long, long time. My muse is just not cooperating too much over this fic. I'll keep on trying to prod her. I can't promise anything regular at this point, but at least I have one new post to offer. Thanks to all those faithful readers who have still been checking the thread. You guys are the best

It was almost a month before Leia was discharged from the infirmary. Physically, she had regained much of her former strength and weight, but mentally, she was still dazed. She walked as though she wasn?t sure of where to place her feet on the ground. And there was a distance in her eyes that was unsettling. She seemed to answer questions properly, knew where she was and why she had been hospitalized, but all her responses seemed just a trifle too slow and forced, as though she had been drugged.

Han brought her back to their cottage, insisting on using a hoverchair as he escorted her through the Palace compound. Several passersby turned to stare at her as they made their way past courtyard after courtyard, but Leia barely seemed to notice. She greeted well-wishers dully, as though it took too much energy for her to simulate any sort of gratitude for their concern.

It was nearing noontime when they entered their cottage, and Han carried her off the hoverchair, settling her down on a sofa.

?Just rest,? Han said. ?I?ll whip up some lunch.? In truth, Han had prepared a complicated meal the day before in preparation for Leia?s return, a meal filled with Leia?s favorite Alderaanian foods, anything that might tempt her appetite or coax some sort of response from her, even though Han had very little real hope that Leia would even care.

Leia did not look very enthusiastic when the food was placed before her, but she wasn?t nearly as dazed as she had appeared. ?You must have gone through a lot of trouble to make that ploverbird,? she remarked as Han dished out the delicacy for her. ?Thanks.?

?Don?t thank me until you?ve tasted it,? Han said. ?I?ve never made it before, so I have no idea how it?s turned out.?

?I?m sure it?s fine,? Leia said. She tried to smile but it came out forced and weak, and lasted only a fleeting moment before the indifference returned to her eyes. Dutifully, she ate a few forkfuls of food before she nodded. ?Mmm?quite good.? The smile touched her lips but not her eyes, and vanished swiftly. She ate every mouthful placed in front of her without another comment, and then when her plate was clean, she looked up at Han. ?You haven?t eaten anything.?

?I?ll eat later,? Han said, dismissively. ?You want to go for a walk or rest??

?I?d like to rest,? Leia said. She rose from her chair and then looked about the apartment with a bewildered gaze, as though she was seeing it for the first time.

?Bedroom,? Han murmured, pointing Leia to the door.

Leia nodded, crossed the room and then headed into the bedroom shutting the door behind her.

Still in the livingroom, Han stood looking at the closed door and felt despair clamping about his heart like steel manacles.

For the first few days after she came home, it seemed Leia did little more than eat and sleep. Han, though not a patient man by nature, was as understanding and helpful as he could be. Guilt and self-hatred gnawed at him like acid; he had made her this way, he had hurt her. Only now, that he had nearly lost her did he understand just how much she meant to him. She was the love of his life, and if he owed her a lifetime of penance and patient, humble understanding, he was going to give it to her.

The days weren?t so bad; the days were even mildly pleasant. The weather was balmy and temperate and there were fragrant tropical breezes that fluttered in through the open windows of the cottage. Native birds cawed and sang outside and there was a pleasant rustle from the leaves of the Byrini palms. In the daytime, Leia was able to rest, able to keep morbid, haunting thoughts at bay. Visitors came in the dayti

Edit: Back! Though I'd forgotten that I hadn't actually left feedback upon posting.

Upon the initial reaction to the miscarriage and guilt afterwards, I remembered other long and painful separations and got worried. But the ending with her asking him to stay.... I know it's not going to be easy, that it's still going to be hard to overcome the loss she's facing, but I hope this time she'll allow Han to heal with her.
