The addition of Connery elevates Last Crusade to a place where arguably the other films don't go. He gives the quest for the macguffin more meaning, he adds some heart and emotion to the story. The relationship between Indy and his dad and having them kind of rediscovering their relationship is the driving force of Last Crusade. Inspired casting.

Connery was red hot too when he was cast in Last Crusade having recently won the Oscar for The Untouchables.

Honestly, I thought the most interesting aspect of "The Last Crusade" was the Elsa Schneider character. She was probably the most complicated character in the entire franchise.

While Raiders has the best beginning of any Indiana Jones movie (maybe any movie period), TLC has the best ending.

it's hard to think of any movie with a more iconic opening 15 minutes than Raiders

Perhaps controversially, I find her the best out of the three leading ladies.

Sorry about Marion, but... watching it again, she does almost as much screaming and needing to be rescued as Willie. I liked that Elsa was at least on the same wavelength as Indy, what with both being archaeology nerds.

Its a great ending and is very much inspired by the beginning of Raiders with its trials and traps in a temple.

Elsa is a good character, and making her a villain was a very good twist too, but what gives Marion the edge for me is how well hers and Indys relationship comes across in the film. They make a good pairing.

I must be one of the few Willie Scott fans. Yeah she screams a lot, but the film is constantly poking fun at her for that. Plus by the end of the movie she's punching the bad guys out. I look at TOD as a nightmare of Indys.

It's a tie for me between Marion and Elsa, on the basis they're different enough in concept and execution they don't really compare. Marion's an Old Flame and partial Action Girl, while Elsa ends up being a Femme Fatale with a healthy dose of Geeky Turn On behind what draws Indy to her.

Last Crusade remains my favorite overall, though largely because of the magic of Connery and Ford working together.

Beating a Nazi jet with birds and a history quote is too damn good!

My favourite Sean Connery scene ever is in Last Crusade. "I should have mailed it to the MARX Brothers!"

“It tells me that goose-stepping morons like yourself should try reading books instead of BURNING them!” might be the early experience that formed the part of my brain that rejects any anti-book or anti-reading opinions by my students as just stupid.

    ...It’s a good thing I don’t teach English anymore.

Considering that I'm a fan of all the Indiana Jones movies, I cannot say there was something unique about it that truly appealed to me.

I cannot say I would agree with this. Don't get me wrong, Connery gave an entertaining performance. But I don't think he managed to elevate the film above the other ones in the franchise.

I might watch this movie later, havent seen it in a while. I did like the secret society angle but they were underused.

I think the addition of Indys dad adds an emotional level to the story that the others didn't have, it makes it almost a two fold macguffin, finding the Grail physically and also metaphorically in rekindling their relationship together.

Not as successfully perhaps, but the slave children in TOD also work as a complement to the macguffin (the stones), making Indy's quest more about defeating the evil in Pankot, rather than just finding the stones.
As Lucas often said, they never managed to find a macguffin as perfect as the Lost Ark, and both Temple and Crusade depend more on the emotional/personal angle than on the macguffin to succeed.

Was Indiana Jones 3 had some inspirations from Adventures of Tin Tin ?

I remember someone saying that Spielberg likes Tin Tin.
