I will say this...A LOT of the iconography that is associated with Indiana Jones comes from this film. Maybe even more than Raiders.

I'm pretty sure that the last time they released the original trilogy on the cinemas here it was for Raiders 30th anniversary, because I went to see them all again. So I think this release must be for TOD's 40th (even though its a few months out).

I thought Willie worked well as a fish out of water, though the screaming did seem to get a bit repetitive, but ultimately I wouldn't even bother with setting up the romance, I get it was kind of their take on the "Bond girl" but it wasn't very well developed and you know she's not even going to stick around, so I'd really just rather she be the comic relief partner. The bit where Indy and Willy wait five minutes is the one scene I like that necessitated sexual tension to be in the movie.

Yeah I'd agree with that, it wasnt really a film which stuck to a simple formula or referenced Raiders(ok the gun joke but not much else) much either when it could easily have gotten away with that.

In some ways I spose its the opposite of the direction SW went in as it plays MORE towards classic Hollywood adventures and comedy. Personally I think Capshaws performance is very underrated, very good "odd couple" chemistry with Ford indeed and the "nocturnal activities" bit is probably the funniest comedy in the franchise for me whilst still being a believable romance.

Same. Especially the Slave Children's Crusade. Goosebumps every time.

Today at the half price bookstore, I found a sealed VHS copy of Temple of Doom!
1989 edition with the Paramount watermarks on the label.

In tiny print on the back of the cover it says "This film may be too intense for younger children."

Yes we all had this one back in the 90s. That heart-ripping-out scene is why the PG-13 rating was invented. So it's PG plus a warning.

It's quite a fun collectible, in near mint condition. I've yet to see a sealed copy of Raiders on VHS in the wild.

Point out that the plane being owned by Lao Che does not mean he can just rush into the airport and kill them, its still presumably an airport run by the British authorities with armed guards.

TOD is certainly not a cookie cutter sequel, and I love it for that. It has callbacks to Raiders, but no one predicted the film would go the way it did. That's why as much as I like Last Crusade, it feels a little like a retread to me. Sean Connery definitely elevated the film once he appeared.
