Yeah, no words. Except that this is what budget cuts gets you. It was two people--against one guard. ONE guard at Olympia.
They're definitely not getting anything back from the British Museum now. Saunty: They had so many more guards a few years ago. I remember, because they had this insane policy of banning pictures with people in them. You could snap all the shots you want, but if someone was posing in them they'd get mad. They yelled at me because some random was in one of my shots!
I recall during the troubles in Egypt that citizens took it upon themselves to protect museums from looters. That is pride in your history and heritage, shame on those who steal or destroy the thngs that make their country great.
Ok, now that I'm actually calm enough to read the article, it looks like the museum that was hit wasn't the main Olympia museum (the one with the awesome Praxiteles) but a smaller annex with stuff relating to the Olympic Games. It's still an outrage, but at least the best works weren't stolen. Thank goodness for small favors.
