Lit Insider Legends Fiction Collection

My copy is in the post!

 

I've got it on my 'next order' list for Amazon UK as it isn't out til May 4.

 

This is a very nice volume that I got for a steal - £13.56 on a £21.99 RRP - and if you get it for the more usual online price of £15-16, it's worth it.

Page size is akin to a UK hardback annual. There is a lot of excellent art here and much material I've been unable to access until now.

I'm not a fan of the three columns of text page layout but that's minor.

I will certainly be buying volume 2.

 

I'm still waiting on amazon uk to get it. they have it down for the 4th but my order is saying the 26th !?. good to know it passes Jedi Bens QC.

 

That's good to know as that's where I was going to get it. Maybe it's delayed in shipping or something due to Covid. I know one of the High Republic books took quite awhile to be available on the UK site.

Only just spotted this, but if you want an easy size to match up to, it's very close to the size of Marvel's OHCs.

 

What I really want is the collection of the Insider "HoloNet News" articles.

 

Is there enough of those for a book? Weren't they one-pagers?

Like with any short story collection, it'll vary from story to story. Despite this, the stories are generally pretty good for the Legends section. There are a couple that don't work so well, mostly those set in Legends' later eras. The best ones? Tend to be by the usual suspects - Wyndham, Fry, Zahn, Stover, Reaves.

Have read two of the new material - Freed's tale is a great little example of finding on an alternative take on a known story by showing what happens to an Alderaanian commuity, deep within Coruscant, in the wake of the planet's destruction. Miller's tale is a deliciously twisted tale of the Emperor's designs for training Imperial cadets.

 

Had an unexpected opportuity to read the Blade Squadron quartet.

For anyone interested in the very busy post-Endor part of the war, these four stories are essential, covering the squadron's involvement at Endor, then a strike on Moff Pandion, then Kuat and, finally, Jakku. The four stories slot neatly into the gaps left by the Aftermath and Alphabet Squadron trilogies.

Oh and the art for them is superb.

 

What's funny is that the bad guy in the first story, Jhared Montferrat, is visually inspired (at least partly) by Mads Mikkelsen. This was of course before Rogue One. I have a kinda silly headcanon that Galen Erso and Jhared Montferrat are cousins or half-brothers or something ridiculous like that. XD

I know, right? I get a kick out of that. There's even official art.

I got an additional glossy page at the front and the back. But they're not bound, so it's like I was just given two free pieces of photo paper. I was a bit confused LOL.
I really like that these are from 2012 and on. I got Insider for only 2 years, I think 2003-2005, so these stories are all new for me.

 

My copy had those two weird extra pages too.

Not there yet. I am very slow with these Insider collections for whatever reason.

But there's the J/J one I just started which makes my heart happy [too]!

My poor husband was VERY confused by the title. He goes "why are they calling it a fiction collection? Isn't ALL Star Wars fiction?"
The word 'Insider' is so small in the title that it's easy to miss
