Interracial Dating: A Discussion

It seems in recent years that interracial dating, namely black males dating white females has become more prevailent in our society. It also seems that the media has helped fuel this trend, if you can call it that, by pushing the stereotype in films and television that black men are the ones who can please women. I am in no way a racist nor do I oppose such relations. The first love of my life in fact was an African-American woman. I have also thought to myself that perhaps this has been a steady occurance in the last 30-40 years but I am only noticing it now because I am older, more mature, and alot more observent on a variety of issues. This isn't just limited to African-American/Caucasian relationships however, it basically seems like all racial and ethnic groups are dating outside of their community these days. What are your thoughts or observations on this? Have you ever dated someone other than your own race? If not, would you?

This is meant to be an intelligent discussion and I insist everyone remain PC in this thread. Also lets try to stay away from racism or possible racial remarks, as they will not be tolerated.

 

I've seen it a lot here in Scotland, and I'd agree its white women who go for black men in many cases. It seems that being black gives you the new "Fonz Factor" or something, which I guess is good news in a society where everyone is usually totally repulsed by the slightest difference. I'm glad its happening, so far.

 

What the hell country are you from? We don't even have a term like "interracial dating" where I live, any more than we have "different height dating" or "blonde dating brunette".

Intelligent disscussion or nor I find this thread highly offensive. Call interracial dating a trend is like say I am a fad myself. Get off the internet and spend a day in the real world.

I have noticed. I don't get out much, but this weekend I must've seen at least a dozen couples, most of them, as you say, black men with white women. It surprised me to some extent, just because I haven't seen interracial couples terribly frequently in the past.

It also surprises me mildly because -- and I don't think this is racist -- I just don't tend to find women of other "races" terribly attractive. I've got several friends, some of them pretty good friends, that aren't white, but I can't recall having ever been sexually attracted to, say, a black woman.

I don't care about race, and it wouldn't factor in to who I date.

 

I live in London, we don't have segration here! The last 4 women I've dated have been Indian, Persian, Australian & Nigerian.

 

Once you go Black you never go back.

If you go back to white, youll be running BACK to Black.

If you think any differently, or are proud of yourself for not discriminating against people on the basis of their race, you have some serious problems to work through.

Interracial dating is no even anything that people discuss where I live, you just date who ever you fancy, thats it.

 

I've noticed it to. It's not completely unexpected, for a number of reasons.

1) The ease and speed at which long distances can be crossed, combined with:

2) The internet, and other systems which allow fast, long distance communication are breaking down political and geographical barriers in a world-wide society that is, out of neccessity, rapidly homogenizing.

This process is leading a homogenization of the human gene pool. Skin color is, of course, one of the most hereditable of all human features. It is a likley theory that in the future, the human race will (with very minute variations) have come to the point where we will be a single skin color, likely a chocolate brown.

 

But that doesn't count, because it wasn't consensual

What is there to be offended over? We're attempting to have an intelligent discussion on interracial dating here. I never labeled it a fad or trend and if you read in my initial post, I questioned whether one could really call it a trend. From my initial post:

I'd like to hear the input of some other users, namely the ones who grew up in the 80s and early 90s. Like I said to begin with, I am curious if this is something that has picked up steam in recent years or a custom that has been going on for several decades.

I don't have any problems with it, being that I am the product of an interracial marriage.

 

My very best friend's parents are an African-American man and a white woman.

 

A black patient of mine came in a month ago and he was very sweet to me, and we are about the same age. I actually think he was flirting a bit, well--as much as he could with being in a fair amount of pain from a previous car accident, and his mom being right there with him also. But if he had asked me out, I would have said yes, cuz he seemed like a good guy. That's all I care about.

I think it helps especially for the generation you mentioned, growing up in 80s and 90s, that dating someone of a different race isn't so taboo. At least in more parts of the country.

 

I once dated a guy who was tanner than I am.


In all seriousness though, I would never let someone's race hold me back from dating them. That's just ridiculous.

No, more like being at a lack of words to amply express my shock at hearing somebody ask if interracial dating is new, or has been going on for a while now. Maybe it's different where you and Dashy come from, maybe people really still do inherently judge someone by their skin colour, but as Mulacki said...here it's really not an issue, I would find it no odder that my friend was dating a black girl than to hear she wore size 9 shoes, had a braid or wore denim.

 

Jedi Warrior - this thread isn't making any sense to me either. I think it's an American thing, some godawful hangover from segragation or something.

 

Yes, I notice a lot of Black dude are dating white girls too...

However, I am NO racist, so that's cool, if they want to be together.

I just hope their feelings for each other is mutual, not because the other is a good-looker, or has a BIGGER sex organ!
