Is it true that if you send a certain amount of PM's which don't get answered, you cannot send more?

Is it true that if you send a certain amount of PM's which don't get answered, you cannot send more?

I mostly send to Users I already know or Mods, but I read this somewhere and thought if it's true or not.

If you've sent five PMs to a user and they haven't read any of them yet, then you can't send anymore until they have read them.

Yeah that pretty much caught me off guard this time last year as well. Didn't realize it. Of course I also didn't realize the user name i was sending the pm's to was banned.
