Bond: Timothy Dalton... no matter what HSolo29 says. :p

Movie: The Living Daylights/Licence to Kill (Can't really pick)

    Bond Girl: Eh... not sure.

Villian: Ernst Stavro Blofeld (as portrayed by Donald Pleasence)

There is very simple mathmatical formula in determining the best Bond... Dalton>All :p He also get the best Bond theme: Ice Chase.

Ice chase very good; I agree..hard to argue with John Barry

best scores: OHMSS, TLD, LALD, TMWTGG..

I Kinda liked Telly Savalas' potrayal of Blofeld myself; but Pleasance was good.

Yeah, Savalas was good too. He gave Blofeld charm. But when Gray took the role, he overdid it. That and a stunningly lackluster performance on Connery's part killed DAF.

Well, I was wondering when the two biggest geeky worlds of mine would collide.:-B [face_dancing]

    Favs:

    Bond: Sean Connery
    Film: Froom Russia With Love
Villain: Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Before the face)
    Score(s): OHMSS,TLD,TND,OP,LALD(love the funk)

As for Casino Royale, I trust Martin Campbell to make a great Bond film, but I do hope he is not considering the "Bond begins" storyline. It's great to have reinvented franchises (Batman needed it REAL bad) and new visions, but the Bond series has survived bad scriptwriters before, and has retained continuity for 40+ years without starting over. However, if this must happen:oops:, I can only hope for more edgy style in music and directing (if Soderbergh ever got to touch a Bond flick, I might do back-handsprings). Still rooting for Pierce 'til the bitter end.

    AND BRING BACK FELIX, DANGIT!!!!!!!!!

It won't be "Bond Begins". Casino Royale takes place after Die Another Day.

Ender Sai, you moderate the Senate with posts like that?

I eagerly anticipate how this will turn out. I have faith that Martin Campbell can inject some much needed excitement into the series. Goran Visjnic - initial thoughts: No way. Second thought - Actually...

What do you think, Silvertouch? [face_plain]

I can't begin to describe how vastly stupid I think EON are. They think that because Bourne was younger, Bond must be younger without realise Bourne worked off the grittiness, not the actor's damned aged.

    I totally agree with ENDER_SAI.

Eon, Michael and Barbara have finally done to their fathers creation what no other spy/action/thriller franchise could do...bring down Bond. (for me anyway...I'm sure the movies will go on...but it has lost something on me now.)

The answer is not bringing in a younger actor and I don't care if Royale is Bond's first assignment, they are bringing in a younger actor to make him more hip (and I bet with modern day attitude....like we need more of that) not because the storyline dictates it. Campbell is a very capable director; Goldeneye was fantastic....because the Micheal France story was good. The guys writing since then have done nothing for me....and I think Campbell's hands are tied to a weak script even as I type.

Yes, I fear the same. I hope that the rewrite has uncheesed and beefed up the Purvis & Wade draft. Those two have written some of the worst tripe I have heard in a James Bond script, and I mean, none of them are exactly oscar material to begin with, so that's REALLY bad. It's just quip, comeback, bad sexual pun, quip, comeback, Bond's verbal explanation to his unwitting allies of EXACTLY what the villain is planning, quip, comeback, bad guy dies, BAAAAAAAAAAAD sexual pun. I, for one, am ready for some more of the character that GoldenEye investigated (beach scene:=D=). I truly hope that the rewrite and Campbell at the helm will elevate this film beyond the standard as of late.

They'd do well to cast someone like Clive Owen, and not those turgid cretins that Campbell has met with and tested. Daniel Craig? Craptacular. Goran Whomever? No. Sam Worthington - Sorry Sam, but you look almost like a young Pierce. A 22 yr old? **** off.

Okay, way back, quite a while back, I started a review of the whole series and got sidetracked.

I finally finished watching the whole series (except TWINE, which I can't find a copy of without having to rent it from Blockbuster and I'm not renting from Blockbuster right now), so I'm going to continue that.

However, it's been so long, that I'm afraid I've lost all context. So, in short, I'm starting over, reposting my old reviews.

And we'll move, fairly quickly, I hope, all the way from Dr. No to Die Another Day (skipping only TWINE!) and we'll see how I feel about the series in retrospect.

And, as always, your comments are very welcome, I hope this fosters some discussion of the classics.

    Dr. No

Something mythic in it, I suppose, but it's amusing how low key it was. Ironically, it remains tremendously effective.

At this point, Connery's Bond was still fully in anti-hero mode. We're supposed to root for him, not like him. He's undeniably cool, of course, but the best moments are the moments of shocking brutality: his cold blooded murder of the double agent, his beating of a girl for information.

This one is very effective because it's essentially a detective story (and the opening murder is beautifully exectuted with some seriously high impact silencers making me jump out of my skin) and Connery, clad in his impeccable suits, makes a very good detective.

And for all the death traps he'd face later, the one that still gives me the shivers is one of the simplest: that darn spider.

My memory is a tad blurry, but I believe Bernard Lee's M is here, though Desmond Llewellyn's Q is not. Lois Maxwell is also present as Moneypenny, but her part is substantially smaller than it would become in later films.

Worth mentioning is Ursula Andress as the most psychotic of the Bond girls, who tells Bond a hilariously sick story about killing a man with a tarantula. "Maybe it was wrong," she says at one point. Yeah, maybe.

Much smaller, much tighter, in many ways more effective than the cartoon extravaganzas that would come.

    *** 1/2 stars.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Daniel Craig has signed the deal. This is from the same person who first announced Brosnan was out of the running, but I would still take it with a handful of salt. I'm geussing she just geussed one of the "final 4". She's got a 25% chance of being right. Of course, I believe it was the Daily Mail who claimed Bill Nighy would be playing Doctor Who shortly before BBC announced it would be Christopher Eccleston.

    [image=http://img429.imageshack.us/img429/3641/bonds7jv.jpg]

Although I'm not too thrilled with any of the four, I think I would prefer that Goran Visnjic bloke to get the part. He looks the most "Bondish" of the lot. Worthington and Cavill are too young (which scares me because I really don't want "Bond Begins".
That been said, I think it will end up being Daniel Craig. I haven't seen Layer Cake, but I do remember him in Tomb Raider.

    From CBn

Bond #6: Is it Daniel Craig?

'Layer Cake' star signed for the role in 'Casino Royale'? Official announcement today or tomorrow?

Written by Tim Roth (11 Oct, 2005, 10:02)

British tabloid "Daily Mail" today reports that Daniel Craig is about to become James Bond #6 in the upcoming Bond movie Casino Royale. According to the paper, Craig "won" the re-audition against Youngster Henry Cavill. Both were invited for a second screentest, the tabloid claims.

Daniel Craig's candidacy has been one of the more mysterious aspects of the James Bond casting drama. Craig was "announced" as Bond by the worldwide news media in April of this year. Even CNN reported this as fact. But when CBn tried to investigate the Craig question, we were told Craig was not in the running

Around a month ago, on September 17th, a lot of sources and news outlets, reported that Craig was close to becoming the new 007. CBn had broken the news that Craig was in the running again on August 31st.

The "Daily Mail" now claims that "Craig, 37, whose choice will be confirmed by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson later this week, will be the sixth Bond, but the first blond."

What seems interesting about this piece of news is the source the article comes from; it was written by Nicole Lampert, the woman who first reported that Pierce Brosnan was out, back in February 2004. At this point of time, the news was seen as "just another tabloid rumour", but we all know how the story went on... Nicole Lampert, lateron, accused of being a "liar", affirmed the reliability of her source "near the production" several times.

Has her source hit again? Is 37-year old Daniel Craig the successor of Pierce Brosnan? Is he about to become the first blonde James Bond? And what about the consequences for the script? Last week, director Martin Campbell confirmed that the script was written for a "28 to 30 years old James Bond".

Despite this new information, CBn has not been able to confirm via its regular sources that Craig is about to become the next James Bond. What we are able to confirm is, as reported, that a decision regarding the actor will be made this week.

Or, has the decision already been made?

If the "Daily Mail" is genuine, we should know within the next few days. Stay tuned!

I hope not. Out of the "final" four I'd rather have Cavill.

He looks all wrong. Why is this necessary? There aren't enough good candidates?

    I suspect he's inexpensive.

Now you've done it, Rogue. I had to get the first Bond movies out of the library. I've never seen any of them, as it turns out.

I just heard about Daniel Craig also. But my source was FOX News Channel.

Whether you like Craig or not, at least he's not in his 20's.... And it also means that the production of Casino is actually moving along. Finally! [face_dancing]
