    There's a hi-res version of Craig's official photo here:

I used it to make this poster.

    Sean Connery = Scottish
    George Lazenby = Australian
    Roger Moore = English
    Timothy Dalton = Welsh
    Pierce Brosnan = Irish
    Daniel Craig = English

Yes, Lazenby was born in Australia, but didn't he spend most of his life in Britain? That's where he did his modelling.

Lazenby left Australia for the UK when he was 16 or 17.

No it won't. Craig said at the conference he won't be dyeing his hair.

He won't be dying his hair? You have to be ******* kidding me.

Well, I guess in light of that at least the energy concerns of the world can be abated for some time; we'll just hook a generator up to the spinning corpse of Ian Fleming.

Gobi; that "Daniel Craig is Bond - deal with it" poster was lame. :) I can see it now, "Will Smith is James Bond - Deal With It". Obviously, we have to deal with it - however, we are under absolutely no obligation to like this casting choice.

Would you make a "Roger Moore was James Bond - Deal With It" poster?

Raven; whenever I hear an American or Canadian try and do a British accent, it just doesn't work without loads of training. It's not your natural way of speaking. For Australians, it is and so we are much better at adapting an English accent (or indeed, any accent as people like Naomi Watts or Hugh Jackman or Russell Crowe show) than our North American cousins.

If a Canadian was to play Bond, it'd have to be the mother of all British accents. But I stand by my assertion that no American should play Bond. It's an English franchise, and should remain within the Commonwealth.

Actually, no. He left Australia when he was 25. His accent is definately Australian; unless you guys think of the dreadful attempts made on the Aussie accent by American actors or the Crocodile Hunter's broad drawl?

Yeah, I think he would've been good in the role. He hasn't done much visible work recently, even in England; he used to be on TV a fair bit in the UK, but the last thing I saw him in was Resident Evil . I wonder whether he really is dificult to work with.

James Purefoy is currently playing Marcus Antonius in the HBO/BBC ROME series, and he's brilliant - smarmy, arrogant and charming.

I agree with that. If they had cast anyone but an American (Orlando Bloom's name was mentioned) as Superman, I would have been one cranky Yankee.

Very true, but Superman is American mythology and far more iconic in that way than Batman.

Your right. Lazenby left home at 15 then spent several months in the Australian Army, worked as a mechanic, a car salesmen, then a guitar player in a band. Lazenby became the band leader and they would play back up for other bigger singers touring Australia. He arrived in England in 1964 and went back to selling cars. Photographer Chard Jenkins discovered him in a car showroom and within a year he was one of the highest paid male models in the Europe. taken from James Bond: The Legacy page 115.

About the "Deal With It" poster. It works on several layers. One it's aimed at the bashers who don't won't Craig and two it's a play on word with dealing playing cards and gambling.

I maintain that Craig should not be Bond, as he doesnt have the look.

I agree that James Purefoy would have made a great Bond. He is sneering, and tough, rather apt with the ladies. Eon truely has dropped the ball on this one.

I don't understand the whole 'look' thing. None of the other five look particularly similar at all. As long as they're not fat, or Chinese, or bald, and as long as they're capable of charm, I don't think there should be too much of a litmus test on these guys beyond the simple question 'Can you act like James Bond?'

Even Connery, the great Sean Connery, wasn't particularly suave. Not like the other four. He was much rougher around the edges. But all five, even Moore, even Brosnan, hit most of the marks, and there's little reason (that I'm aware of) to think Craig won't as well.

Minus the hair, Craig fits Ian Fleming's description better than any other Bond. He's 6 ft, the same build, and his British. I imagine he'll be much like Dalton--very gritty.

Speaking of that, a friend/coworker (who happens to PlastiqPhantom of these boards) was telling me that he's thinking Craig will go the way of Dalton and be a "failed Bond." In 2003, the part was offered to Christian Bale who went off to do Batman Begins instead, much like Brosnan with Remington Steele. If history repeats itself, when Bale's done with Batman he could potentially be the next, great Bond. Although that's getting way ahead of ourselves.

It's funny you mention Connery and bald in the same post, seeing as how Sean Connery was indeed, bald when he played Bond - for most of the films.

If we're going to stick with Craig, he needs to dye his hair lest we have a light haired Bond a la Moore!!! :D

Cool poster, Gobi and that pic of Craig looks pretty good. He kind of looks a bit like Sean Connery in that pic. Not bad.

After watching Rome, I agree Purefoy would've been a good choice. Still, I can see Craig fitting the bill of a grittier and harder 007.

I agree that he seems to fit the description but I hope he dyes his hair. A blonde James Bond would be sort of weird.

Nice. I love how he was asked to describe his ideal Bond girl like three times. And by women no less. [face_laugh]

[face_thinking] OK, I watched that press conference. If he dyes his hair, he may be a decent enough second choice behind Owen.

Great actor, but it may take a bit to be a belivable bond. And, as it stands right now. The video games make more than the movies, so they have to make the movie "playable."
