So lightsaber belt extension cords to power them up in this movie or no? And then some guy trips on it and impales himself on his laser sword and then someone says "We gotta go cordless"

Oh, I wasn’t talking about the hand in space thing. That was an older rumor. The other opening involved Luke’s blue lightsaber falling to the ground on Bespin, being picked up by a tribesman who accidentally sets a grass fire with it in a sort of the Gods Must Be Crazy situation, sells it to a space-faring merchant or something, and then it gets passed on from world to world until ending up at Maz’s, or whatever. The hand in space thing was dumb and not what I was referencing. The above could’ve been bad too, and a flashback would’ve have fit the saga style of starting media res in the present, but at least it had some imaginative spark to it…

And they do, that's the point. If The Resistance has been fighting the First Order for years, then their army is no secret. While the resistance get help from some people in the Republic, that's not remotely the same as having support of the Republic. There is a reason why they can't do this as part oft the Republic, because the Republic pretends there is no issue at all.

Again, they are in the middle of nowhere. No one cares how they appear there, because there is no one who could tell, and no one who would listen if anyone could tell. The Republic has settled into inactivity regarding the First Order. It doesn't matter one bit whether a Star Destroyer is doing anything like that, because the New Republic isn't going to show an immediate reaction to it. Even if it would wake them up - which it wouldn't, because it happened in the middle of nowhere - they wouldn't make any quick moves. By the time the attack would happen, they would still be in the exact same position. An entity that has chosen deliberate inactivity on a matter, isn't going to explode into sudden activity based on a non-event like that. They would not burst into action because someone would claim a Star Destroyer attacked a remote planet. First of all, there isn't really anyone who could tell. And if it came from the reistance, no one would care, because they have been outcast for raising these claims against the First Order time and time again.

The location matters. Yes, it wouldn't make any sense if that happened to a densily populated world that was an important part of the Republic, but it didn't. It happened at a remote place in the middle of nowhere, a place the New Republic has no real influence over and doesn't care about. The people who got attacked all died or were captured, and everyone else either didn't notice anything as they weren't attacked, or had no means or interest to inform the New Republic. Why would anyone who barely gets by go out of his way to inform the Republic - an entity that doesn't care about him or his planet - of a big ship arriving?
That doesn't even cover said big ship arriving at night, and not really doing anything, as the attack against a remote village was carried out by smaller ships.

And as you've mentioned, this piece of information is essential to the First Order. All the more reason to come in with overwhelming firepower.

There is something that I never really liked about this 25.000 years ago concept, and that's the mix of technology you have to come up with. Ancient times and space travel don't really work well together, unless you have superior beings that are on a totally different technological level than the common person. And that sort of approach tends to fall into the trap of putting every technological development at the feet of said superior beings instead of people actually being capable of figuring things out for themselves.

What people in the Skywalker era consider ancient times can still be a fairly advanced space age. I have no problem with the concept of a galactic civilization that's been around for tens of thousands of years. They can just make everything less powerful and have it look different. Maybe there are no hyperdrives? Or maybe they're in their infancy?
Maybe this is the age where different solar systems start to connect, form alliances and exchange technologies?

The Rakatan are just like the Goa'uld. They were cruel, they were savage and EXTREMELY ARROGANT. and according to Star Wars Legends, they were the ones that first developed Hyperdrive technology so the people of the SW universe could've mounted a rebellion, overthrown the Rakatan and their "Infinite Empire" and taken their technology for themselves (To the victim goes the spoils.)

Also on a side note: Stargate has been my favorite scifi franchise (Other than Star Wars) for the last 26 years.
