When Attack of the Clones first came out on DVD in the UK, the Jango Fett head butt had been cut (1 sec). So yeah, I opted for the region 1. I haven’t bought it again on any format since. My question is, has the head butt been restored in the UK since its first release. I'd like to know, cos I’m wanting to upgrade to the "Skywalker Sags" Blu Ray that comes out in a few days. Ideally I’d like the region 2, but not if it’s been cut.
I checked a German page for censorship in movies. They made comparison for the DVD release, between German and UK DVD (found the missing headbutt). Further a year later they compared the fox UK blu ray release with the German DVD. The headbutt is not listed as cut, there is just a small change in a few frames during the speeder chase, when they get electrified, this is for all blu ray releases. It was not censored, just re-arranged. The Blu Ray should be uncut, of course if they use the same material as for the fox release. Or get the German version, it is same region and you can chose english language too.
The Site also has an english Version for the DVD comparision. When the comparison was made the then relatively new UK prequel DVD box included also the uncut Version. https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=683662
All further UK releases on Bluray were uncut. I've checked myself multiple sources cause a german I wanted to buy the UK boxes for their better english Audio (the german version of the BD had a compressed english mix).
But they kept the Aragorn / Lurtz headbutt from Lord of the Rings. The rationale was that English school kids were more likely to act out Star Wars on the playground than Lord of the Rings! If you want a real laugh, watch their 80's Ninja Turtles cartoon intro!
That is straight-up criminal. That was literally the coolest shot in that entire scene, and the fight easily loses like half of its intensity without that brutal headbutt.
I'm surprised they cut the headbutt. IMO Windu's decapitation of Jango, and Vader's ROTS Immolation scene is way worse. Did they cut burning skeleton Owen and Beru as well?
You know, to this age I'm still surprised why they feel the need to censor this kind of stuff for children. Firstly, children are way better of when they know that life is not all rose collored and rosey, dark stuff happens and they need to be prepared for that, just as much as they need to be thaught that it's not ALL there is to life, you can overcome it by being strong and good of heart, if you don't show the dark reality they'll have to overcome very soon, then the strenght of the Light and Good they'll need in order to do that, will not have any meaning for them whatsoever. and secondly, when you think back to your earliest age of watching a Star Wars movie, did Ben Kenobi cutting of a blooded arm, Vader choking a guy and chrushing his throat, Owen and Beru's charred corpses, leave you with trauma's that you're still haunted by in your adulthood now? or where they actually the most memorable and thrillingly exciting parts of the movie, that actually raised the stakes of the story?
Agreed. I won't say that those scenes were necessarily "thrillingly exciting," but it did create the right mood for me to enjoy those moments with the emotional magnitude intended.
