To All Participants In This Forum,

It has come to my attention that there are people in this forum who have some constructive things to say, and perhaps there is no place for them to give voice to their feedback.

Please note that this thread is NOT meant as an avenue to vent frustrations, but rather to speak out about them in a civilised manner (ie. in the manner similar to The Straits Times' Forum pages).

I am looking forward to hearing from everyone who has any useful suggestions to make, and you are welcome to send me a Private Message or to e-mail me.

I am starting this thread in the interest of making further improvements to this fledgling group of ours.

Please bear with us, because we are still a rather new group that is still finding our footing, and that will take time.

While it is true that we cannot possibly please every single person here, I personally hope that this forum can be a place that most people will think of as being comfortable, enjoyable and pleasant... a place with a family-type atmosphere.

I only have 3 simple rules for this thread:
    1) No foul language is to be used in your messages.
    2) No shouting/yelling (ie. posting in all Capital letters) and no unreasonable squabbling with anyone in this thread.
    3) If you must e-mail me personally, please make sure that you DO NOT send me any strange viruses, because I will not be able to reply to you or to take action on your feedback, if you send me something that destroys my ONLY means of communication with you.

If you have something to say, please say it in a civilised manner and state things clearly, rather than fire off a whole bunch of expletives... because no one will know what it is exactly that you are trying to say, unless you state it clearly. And if you cannot be properly understood, then how can I take any action on what you are trying to say.

So in the interest of working together, hand in hand, for the greater good of this group, please feel free to post away or to e-mail me with your suggestions for improvements, or with any kind of feedback, good or bad.

I will do my best to reply to every message as best as I can, and as soon as I can... but please be patient, because I am not online 24 hours a day, every single day of the week.

    Yours Sincerely,
    JediJean.

I agree with JediJean's "this forum can't please everyone".

So please start to accept and live with others opinion and interest. This is everyone's thread. Everyone has the right to open threads and make this a more livelier place.

And no one has the right to judge how much knowledge a fan has.

    I'll end the squabbling here.

Unless there are more irritating responses.

This forum tends to lean towards the cluttered side. I can't speak for everyone, but the occasional repetitive threads sometimes prove bothersome.

    Possible Solutions?
    1. Before posting up a new thread, look through the last few. If any thread has some relation with your intended topic, post a reply there instead.
    2. As Jediclare has mentioned before, generalise thread titles.

I'm sure we can all work together to make this a more conducive environment for Star Wars Based Discussion.

If its not too much to ask I would appreciate it if somebody apologize for talking bad about my religion...
And yes I would like the others who have flamed or release rage at each other to apologize to each other.
Unless of course u guyz are uncivilized.

Having read Yazid's messages above, this is strictly my own personal point of view on this matter.....

Generally, I see myself as being a rather tolerant person, and I try to think before I speak or act, so as far as possible I try not to say or do anything that would be hurtful or insulting to anyone here.

However, I also understand that everyone else around me has a right to believe whatever they choose to believe in, and to say and do whatever it is they choose to say and do, and I respect this fact about them too.

It's not a perfect world, and we're all not perfect people, so I guess the best we can do is to try to understand each other, to be tolerant of each other's beliefs, and to be the best that we can personally be.

All I can say is that what a person does and how a person chooses to react to things that happen around him speaks volumes about who he is inside.

There are 4 questions to answer here.....

    Question 1:
If a person chooses to be sensitive and considerate, in terms of what he chooses to post in his messages, then what does that say about him?

    Question 2:
If a person chooses to be insensitive and inconsiderate in his messages, intentionally or otherwise, then what does that say about him?

    Question 3:
If the person who was insulted chooses to hold a grudge or to take offense at what was being said, then what does that say about him?

    Question 4:
If the person who was insulted chooses to forgive the person who insulted him and just let it go, then what does that say about him?

There are a variety of possibilities in this situation, and each party can make a choice as to which course of action to take.

What I'm saying here is that the person posting a message can post a nice message or a nasty one, that's up to him.

And similarly, the person posting a reply to the message can react in a nice way or in a nasty way, that's up to him.

But what is either of these people trying to achieve and what do their messages say about them, not only to those who are reading their messages, but more importantly to themselves - because in the end, no one else will really judge them, but it is really they who must answer to themselves.

In short, I believe that if everyone here could just show a little consideration or tolerance with regards to the kinds of messages and/or replies that they choose to post here, then that would really be appreciated.

This way, there would really be no need for any official moderation, and we could probably spend more time enjoying ourselves and talking about Star Wars and other such fun things, instead of bickering with each other.

I am not saying this to take any sides with anyone, or to push my own ideas onto anyone, I'm just trying to shed some light on this matter in a reasonable and logical manner, because I believe that we all have the answers within us, it just takes a little light to see in the darkness sometimes.

    On a closing note.....

"Data does not yield information, except with the intervention of the mind.
Information does not yield meaning, except with the intervention of imagination."
    - Theodore Levitt

"The world may be a prison, but freedom exists within yourself.
You can choose to remain a prisoner, or you can choose to seek freedom in whatever form it comes to you."
    - JediJean

The main crux of this matter is this:
The people who choose to read and/or post messages in this forum set the stage for who we are as a group, whether we are a good group or a bad group to be a part of, and whether we are a group that mainly squabbles or mainly enjoys each other's contributions, but the responsibility for this lies within each and every member of this group.
If we can all do our part, then this could be a great place to be in! :)

Its okay I have already forgiven those who have been nasty... but I doubt others would give that.I let god handle them. If this happens again in the future I doubt that my reaction would remain unchanged.

    My suggestion:

1.Only allow Star Wars related topics to be created. Eg Movies, Merchandise, Costuming, EU stuffs, music etc.

For other topics like LOTR, COSPLAY, etc, I don't think they should appear here. A good suggestion is to PM one another or discuss it on other related board.

    2. Appoint 2-3 responsible Moderators. When I mean responsible, they need to be unbiased and also be online frequently (at least once a day). Not those who can only be online for 1 time per week.

    3. Importantly, post constructively. No flaming etc.

tmingyang, the FanForce boards are a place where all the members from a certain area are supposed to be able to interact freely and discuss anything, not only Star Wars. You will find that this is common to all the FanForce boards.

Thus, I find that your first suggestion: 1.Only allow Star Wars related topics to be created. Eg Movies, Merchandise, Costuming, EU stuffs, music etc. is rather harsh, as I'm sure that there are also other topics which we would definitely like to discuss here. In fact, should you want to discuss other stuff regarding SW like the movies, music etc., there are other forums around which would be even more suitable for a better discussion of the topic.

No offence to any leaders of this board, but take a look at this local forum, especially the Science Fiction section.

    I'm with Mingyang on this

    Cosplay shouldn't be here
    LOTR shouldnt be here
    Exam stress shouldn't be here
    Holidays shouldn't be here

this is, after all, a SW forum, other OT stuff can be discussed on irc or other entertainment forums

    tmingyang, JediDart, Valiowk & Peacekeeper,

The FFSG forum is meant as a means of communication for SW fans in Singapore. This is a place where we can discuss everything under the sun, Star Wars-related and/or otherwise.

One of the things that sets this group apart from other online groups is that we are more than just an online group who meets over the internet. We also organise meetings and have outings, whereby SW fans in Singapore can meet with each other, socialise and have fun together.

So from a certain point of view, you might say that the forum is therefore just one means of communication for this group, but the other thing about being a part of this group is that you have the choice as to whether or not you would like to take your online connections off into the real world as well, as a number of us here have already done.

    Peacekeeper,

To answer your question, cosplay has to do with costumes and costuming, getting dressed up as the various fictional characters based on certain movies or anime. I guess if you're a serious cosplayer, then it's like having Halloween 365 days a year?? haha! :p

    Cheers,
    JediJean.

it seems to me, that Jedi Jean already has (and will continue to have) set decisions on what the board is, or isn't for.

so why do we have this thread again?

    I agree with Jedi Jean.
We can discuss stuff that are not Star Wars related cos not all of us here have IRC or other means of communication.
Although we can discuss other stuff I recomend that the thread starter think b4 starting new threads. We wouldn't want threads with few or no replies here.

May I know what are the priorities of this board?

And also what are the things the committee members hope to achieve after say, 6 months? Are there any plans drawn out yet?

It has been quite some time since the committee members have been selected.

If the same excuses like busy work, busy school work always come out, why did you guys made this an official chapter in the first place?

OK, just a few things I'd like to bring up here.....

Firstly, some of your questions may have already been answered in the FanForce FAQ, so you may like to read what's there first.

Secondly, I would like to organise a meeting to settle a number of issues with regards to the group. This meeting will strictly be a meeting, with no other activities tied in, and anyone who is interested in having a say with regards to the issues in the meeting agenda is welcome to join us for this meeting. The meeting agenda will be posted in this thread on Monday (2 Dec 2002).

Everyone is welcome to join us, but in particular, I would like to extend an invitation to:

    - All our "pioneer" members (ie. those who were here BEFORE the release of AOTC, and those who put things in motion and helped to make us an Official Chapter).

    - All our "senior" members (ie. those who are above 21 years old).

    - All the newbies who may be interested in helping to set the foundation for the group.

This meeting will be on a weekend, so hopefully everyone who is interested will be able to make it.

Please PM me or e-mail me to let me know which day you prefer, Saturday or Sunday.

And finally, for all those who would like to join us for this meeting, or if you would like to join us when we organise activiites for the group, please be sure to PM me or e-mail me with your personal particulars.

Participation in our activities is optional, so if you're one of those people who would prefer to remain anonymous and/or just participate or lurk in this Forum, then by all means, the choice is yours.

But for all those who would like to participate in our activities/meetings, I would need for you to submit your personal particulars to me. Just copy and paste the "form" below, fill it in accordingly, and PM or e-mail it to me.

Since my PC crashed on me awhile ago, I am creating a new members' list, so everyone who is interested needs to fill in this form ( yes, again... sorry people, blame it on technology :( ).

    Hi everyone,

I'm really sorry for the delay.
I've been busy job-hunting, so I've been offline for awhile.

Here is the tentative agenda that I'm proposing for the next meeting:

    1. FFSG Group Name
    - Let's settle this once and for all, will it be "Jedi Kopitiam" or "SingaForce"??
    - Please view this thread for more info on what we have already discussed before.

    2. FFSG Group Logo
    - Let's settle this once and for all as well, what shall we use for our group logo??
    - Please view this thread for some idea as to what we may have talked about previously with regards to the group logo.

    3. FFSG Website
    - Are we going to have a website for the group??
    - Please view this thread for more info with regards to the recommendations made for a possible FFSG website.

    4. Guidelines for Posting in this Forum
    - This will be for moderation purposes, as there may be a need for this in the long run.

    5. Guidelines for Joining the Group's Real-Life Activities & Meetings
    - Submission of personal particulars for those who would like to socialise and to do more than just post messages in this forum.

    6. Other Group Matters
    - Defining our group identity, structure & philosophy.
--> Who are we as a group?
--> What is our group structure like?
--> What do we believe in?
    - Group history/milestones to date.
    - Activities currently offered to our members & Suggestions for any other activities that we could possibly organise in future (The kinds of activities that we offer should indicate what this group's priorities/areas of interest are).

Does anyone have anything else to add to this?

NodNarbOen, Darth_Eagle anything else to add to this tentative agenda?

Darth_Eagle, can you help to finalise a date, time and place for this meeting?
    Thanks a bunch! :)

    Cheers,
    JediJean.
