Some random thoughts: 1) Nice reference to Qui-Gon's line about the living force in the beginning of TPM. 2) Maybe we'll get some more on the early 2000s dichotomy when it was no longer Light vs Dark but Living vs Unifying. As I remember, the Jedi were too focused on the Unifying and this is why they missed Sidious, while Qui-Gon knew they should have focused on the Living, and Yoda later realizes this and this is why his training of Luke is also focused on the Living. 3) Curiously, the NJO back then had another "revolution" in Force philosophy, but I never got how exactly it tied into Living vs Unifying. I mean, the last book was called The Unifying Force, which would imply it's more pro-Unifying, but this should be "wrong" as per the point above. 4) On the other hand, @YodaKenobi did name the last book in his NJO fixfic "The Living Force", so this maybe was supposed to fix this "wrongness". 5) I wonder if this would be the new "Cloak of Deception". Maybe we'll later get tie-ins to the other prequels? Maybe JJM is the new Luceno (well, Luceno did also write TUF, see above)?
Being more serious on this, things are looking rather ominous for Trek books. They reduced in number quite a bit, with only a couple out this year and, so far, one for 2024. The sale of S&S is another unknown factor. I'm hoping it all gets better. Admittedly 'stupid' was a bit harsh a term for a Vader joke riff and I'm certain you're a better boss than Vader, but you did stick Darth on your username.
I am really hyped for this! I hope this will give each councilor their time to shine and give them a lot of depth, considering that it seems that the book will be dealing with some serious issues of the Jedi, it will be interesting to see the different perspectives from each one, also, a Yoda POV is rarely seen. Glad to see Miller back! He's among the best Star Wars writers period in my opinion, KOTOR (comic) is still competition for my favorite storyline from the franchise. Side note: now we have both The Unifying Force and The Living Force in book form
Oh this is excellent. Can't wait to read it I hope we get a Zayne Carrick reference maybe a shout out to carrick station? or the Gryph or Goodvalor's? Maybe Obi and Jinn could grab a bite there. @ConservativeJedi321 JJM always tells good stories and I would not worry about him being to harsh on the Jedi, he has always balanced things pretty well.
I’m super hyped for my guy Eeth Koth (his Clone Wars ep made him an instant favorite for me). The best part about this is Oppo Rancisis and Yarael Poof finally getting the attention they deserve. Everyone else on the Council at least got some focus in the Filoni animated series, but the most those 2 got was a silent Oppo cameo in Season 6 of TCW. And Poof - almost literally nothing in both canons. You could he - poofed!
Very glad to see the return of JJM. I'm sure I'll enjoy it no matter what, but keeping my fingers crossed for the levels of EU connectivity (now both Legends and Canon) that he pulled off in Kenobi.
Wonderful news, after so many great stories in the EU and early NU Canon JJM's absence felt hard. That brings back memories of Stark Hyperspace War.
Going by the premise, it could, but it's too early to tell, for all we know it could blatantly contradict it in the text itself.
Depends on how far events end up in the story (or how far into the future they're successfully able to see) for certain characters. Yaddle's death would be a key canary event for any such efforts, for instance. But I would have to assume NU content and histories would be leveraged to one degree or another.
No, in the EU she died closer to AOTC (I think 2-3 years before) during one of the Jedi Quest books. Not during TPM as shown in the NU TOTJ series.
The living vs unifying force conflict was an EU invention which conflicts with Lucas interpretation. He called the unifying force the cosmic force and all Jedi recognized both as part of the cycle of life.
Won’t be shocked at all of this is full of high republic stuff. Especially with four of the council being high republic Jedi. I do find it incredibly funny that this did happen right after we had a thread that was basically hijacked into being about why old EU authors were or were not in the NEU. the answer to me has always been pretty obvious. Unless you have people down on contract to do a book by x date it’s gonna be hard to nail down a timeline so sometimes authors will fall in and out of the franchise for a decade. Such as the case with JJM.
The Tarkin one. We stopped talking about Tarkin by like post 12 and were discussing why EU authors were or were not making canon novels. It was either a grand conspiracy or nothing (it was nothing)
Makes sense now. But they don’t call you Darth for nothing. also I know this book won’t explain it but this again makes me wonder what happened to Yarael Poof. I know out of universe the reason he was not in AOTC was because Lucas thought he looked to much like the Kaminoans
I think one thing that gets forgotten as we're all clamouring for more books is that someone has to write them - along with an editor. (And far more people too!) We may love it if DI went "oh yeah, we got JJM for 10 books", while JJM might be: "I'm what?" Sure, the work is good to have but he has to write them. Hence the need for a more varied SW diet.
I submit that if you aren't thrilled about this news and JJMs return, you should be kicked out of Star Wars fandom (*kidding). Thrilled at his return. Buuut...less thrilled about the subject matter, TBH. I tend to find the old school Jedi Council to be extremely dull. But I'm sure this will be excellent. High Republic connections would be nice.
