The art world isn't a kind place and it certainly helps to stick together! Just from my experiences so far, I'm amazed at how friendly people can be and what advice they have to offer. I've learned a lot so far since graduating college and it's only helped me improve my work. I'm hoping one of these times will be my lucky "break" and I can get my real career started. My goal is to eventually be doing my artwork full-time, so we'll see where it goes.

Also, I wanted to comment on your blog and your latest update concerning your portfolio review at CV. I want to congratulate you on such a successful meeting and I hope it leads to new things for you! I'm kicking myself at the moment since I brought my portfolio with me to CV, but unfortunately, the line was WAY too long when I approached the room and I needed to be somewhere else in 45 minutes. I didn't know how long it would take and I feel now that I missed out on a big opportunity. Although, I do plan to attend Comic Con next year, so maybe I'll have my second chance. If there's anything I've learned so far, it's to never give up and to keep on chugging along.

That's too bad about CV. What day were you there looking to showcase? I was there the Thursday, first in line! It's actually the main reason I went to CV in the first place. Really wanted to talk to Troy Alders. It's a shame, I think he would have loved your work! NEXT TIME!!!

Being a teacher can also be pretty tough though I love is. My art is the product of my stress level.

Thanks so much! Very, very, very rarely! I'm not strong with them at all, and I feel like I have so much more control over the color with Photoshop than I do with traditional mediums. However, I do find myself painting with watercolors occasionally!

I went ahead and updated this thread with some new work: Another commission, some more Women of Star Wars sketch cards, and another page in the (now-9-page) Yoda comic I've been working on.

Also, that tutorial I promised will be uploaded to both DeviantArt and my art blog this friday! I'll include it in this thread as well in the next update.

Wow! I'm incredibly impressed by your work. You've got a very distinctive style, and your use of colour is stunning. The storytelling ability you've shown in your sequential art is magnificent - lots of great angles and framing choices, and you put across what's going on without confusion. I'm sure you'll have no trouble breaking into the field.

Another bump of this topic to announce some big news...

Famous Star Wars artist Grant Gould has recently added me to his DevWatch list on Deviantart, and also favorited my TheForce.net banner from Celebration V! This in and of itself blew my mind. But then Grant went above and beyond any artist call of duty and suggested getting in touch with his editor at Topps Trading Cards about doing some sketch cards for them. And the result?

I am now officially doing 200 sketch cards for Topps' Star Wars Galaxy Series 6 trading cards to be released in 2011.
