    God that was so good.
I'd never seen him without the beard before !
And I never knew that Spielberg was the one who nudged him to do SW over Bridge too Far, I mean you know history could've been very different.
I never knew about his wife either, god that was so young.

But there was so much to cover, I'd love to see a longer version , there was no time to talk about great scores like Empire of the Sun, TPM, etc.

And he's just such a great guy.

    Talk about happy memories.
    :):):)

A Bridge Too Far had a great theme, too. The movie ranks up there with Private Ryan for all-time great war movies, and I highly recommend the book.

It's incredibly well done and such an enjoyable watch. Learned a ton about him too, from his background in the military, I knew he's been married twice but had no idea about his first wife, and just hearing him tell how each film score came to be.

Even though he was complementary at one point, I feel there might have been some shots fired at a prominent film composer.

There will be many rewatches of this and stands as a great celebratory piece to him.

Thanks for the nudge. I just watched it and loved it. Who'd have known that a simple bio-pic and music documentary could be so emotional? And I never knew he played piano in so many classic films.

As for his military service, yeah, all the coolest people served in the US Air Force. Ask me how I know.

When you sit down and watch something like this is brings home that he is unrivalled in his achievements and his talent. I'd never actually thought of it before, but when they show the Jaws scene with no music and Spielberg says something like John has a knack of blending film with music, it hit me that it takes a special kind of talent to take the action on screen and create a score from nothing that seems to match it perfectly. Like it was meant to be. What a man.

I finally watched the documentary. I really liked it. Much of it I already knew, but it was still wonderful.

It was a great watch. I loved him talking about the 5 note motif of Close Encounters. The way he describes it as an unfinished sentence. It's great to see the back and forth he has with Spielberg. They form an amazing partnership and each builds on the other's work. You can also see the friendship between the two that goes back decades.

This shows off some of that camraderie:

I'm genuinely surprised he doesn't use an orchestrator more often. He used one for the Chamber of Secrets.

John Williams is THE writer for film scores, and it will be interesting to see what he scores next.
