Brothers, sisters, in-betweeners,

Who hasn’t felt the pull of clicking that Show Ignored Content link at the bottom of the page even knowing that it leads to massive psychic damage? Thirst for knowledge is human but when we fall prey to the call of the un-ignoring we are the proverbial cat whose life was cut short by their curiosity.

That’s why we have the Litany. In moments of weakness, of fear, of desperation, we repeat it until the temptation is gone.

I must not click.

Clicking is the peace-killer.

Clicking is the little action that brings up my blood pressure.

I will face the temptation to see ignored content.

I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the temptation to show the ignored has gone there will be nothing.

Only a clean thread will remain​

Feel free to use this thread to repost the Litany when you feel the pull. Add it to your bookmarks and every time that “2 ignored posts” message shows up to mock you, know that there’s a way out.

The problem is that those whom I ignore happen unsurprisingly to generate outrage and thus a lot of replies, so that I often end up seeing angry posts out of nowhere, and I feel forced to click the "show" button in order to get the context.

 

I find it best not to ignore anyone even if it would probably help my sanity

 

Don’t feel forced. Repeat the Litany. It will pass.

Do not harm yourself. You are the most important person you have. Put what hurts you in a place where it cannot reach you and, if serenity fails you, repeat the Litany until it takes hold.

Nah, I grew up in the BBS days. I just learned to manually ignore people.

 

Being on everyone's ignore list is the real heaven. Then you can say whatever you like.
