Oh God, this is glorious. Considering the Mon Cals weren't happy with the disarmament to begin with, whatever new capital ships they've cranked out since then would probably be ridiculously powerful and quite literally indestructible; getting the shipwrights themselves involved instead of the demilitarized NRDF is a much better way of giving the Resistance modern heavy hitters.

Clearly "Ethan Sacks" is just Nick's... nick, and he's been hired to write up the new Mon Calamari Agenda Disney is pushing!

 

We were all thinking the same thing when @Ancient Whills posted the info, right?

I mean, this was posted and the internet heaved with a collective signal: Nick.

But given the Mon Cala arcs in the other comics, this makes a lot of sense.

 

It's ****ing hilarious how a good 80% of this thread is currently dedicated to riffs on one running joke!

 

I assume they have to address Ackbar's fate in The Last Jedi. This one is gonna be good!

 

So what will this be?

A) How the Mon Cala fill out the inevitable fleet of the Resistance in TROS, perhaps with a new battlecruiser/dreadnaught named "Allegiance".

or

B) Why there is no big fleet in TROS, because even the Mon Cala caved to the FO, surrendering their previous allegiance.

(Bonus question: which McQuarrie MonCal sketch will be used if option A?)

 

I guess the first order could go all Darth Krayt on Moncala. Should be interesting once it’s in a collection.

 

They won't be stupid enough not to do that. Nick'll riot. No one wants that.

Although, they did axe Ackbar so maybe they'll go with option A and finish the job.

Perhaps it's just me wanting to see post-MC85 Mon Cal cruisers, but I think scenario A is what they're going with. The Mon Cals' arc has always centered around the fact that their capital ships served as the backbone of the Rebellion, how they've staunchly supported resistance even in the face of demilitarization. I just don't see the point of dedicating an entire comic series to conclude their arc, only to show them get steamrolled by the FO. No, I'd say the lessons learned during the GCW resulted in a massive buildup of their fleet, most of which was hidden underwater from prying eyes. Come TRoS, all those battlecruisers and dreadnoughts are going to war with a vengeance. Not to mention this little bit of foreshadowing:
