Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi :)

I joined the forum today; I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone here.

I've been a Star Wars fan since I was a little girl; my two favorite characters have always been Darth Vader/Anakin and Luke.

I'm not sure if I have a favorite movie; I like the entire series.

I'm also a novice fanfiction writer, but I've never thought any of my stuff's good enough to be posted online.

I love the novels! I don't have all of them yet, but I've gotten a few ideas for fanfics out of the ones I have and I'm looking forward to finding more of them later.

Question: How exactly would I go about posting a topic asking for a beta reader? I've posted stuff on other forums (not fanfic forums) and wound up saying things that are stupid and inappropriate without intending to.
I won't say anything inappropriate on this board, but I have no idea how to start the topic.

 

First of all, welcome to the forums.

Second, you should read the TOS of the boards. Underneath the banner, there's a toolbar of links. Click on the one that is labeled "TOS". That'll take you to the Board Rules, and will give you an idea of what is accepted here. As far as FanFic, you should go to those forums and read their rules; there are Rules threads at the top of the FanFic forums. Hope this helps.

Well, you can always ask the index stickied at the top of the Resource forum if you need something specific.
That's a good plan in ay forum, have a look at the stickies, the most important rules are in there.

There is a thread specifically if you're in need of a beta, the Beta Reader Index.
And I suggest you read around a bit on the board to get a feeling for us fanficcers. We tend to be the nice kind, if a bit stuck in our old ways.

 

I'm not sure if I have a favorite novel or not, but I've really enjoyed all of the ones I've read so far.

I've been looking for a copy of the "Dark Lord" trilogy by James Luceno and Matthew Stover. (I think James Luceno and Matthew Stover are the authors of the trilogy? However, I might be wrong.)

I haven't been able to find a copy yet. I'll have to look next time Mom and I run by a bookstore. I was hoping to find a hardback copy.

Could someone please help beta a first-person viewpoint fic I'm in the process of writing? This is an AU fic set during the last quarter of ROTJ. I'm trying to write it from Anakin's viewpoint.

I was listening to the hymn "Amazing Grace" when I began the fic, and the idea hit me: the first verse seems to be telling Vader's story:

"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that sav?d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see."
He was lost to the Dark Side and blinded by the lies Palpatine tossed at him, but Luke redeemed him, found him and brought him back to the Light.

I've given the fic the title "Amazing Grace."

The idea I had was, what if when Luke said "then my father is truly dead," that was the trigger that brought Anakin back and Anakin was using the lightsaber duel as a front to trick Palpatine?

Luke didn't realize Anakin was back until his father pulled Palpatine away and took the Force Lightning for him.

Keeping with the movie, Anakin ends up dying; his thought as soon as he crosses over is, "I saved Luke. If I'm dead, it's probably for the best anyway" and Obi-Wan and Yoda both tell him he has a second chance; he can go back. The only catch is, he'll be alive, but in Vader's body. He'll still need the armor and mask to survive. Anakin agrees and is resurrected.
Luke's managed to repair the damage Palpatine caused to Anakin's suit, helmet and respirator with the Force.

Everyone else looks at him and they panic, seeing "Galactic Enemy Number One;" but on the inside, he's a man resolving never to go back to the evil he did as Vader; he's wanting to do everything possible to atone for his crimes.

This is a WIP so far, but I'm trying to turn it into a novel-length fic. If anyone's interested in becoming a beta on this, please PM me. Thanks.

Would there be a section of the board where someone could find what particular words of profanity are and aren't acceptable to use in fanfic if the fics are being posted on this forum?
I think I found a thread like that somewhere on here yesterday, but I forgot where it was. If anyone knows where the thread is, could someone please post a link?

I'm also trying to think of a SW-themed term to replace the idiom "looking daggers at" someone. The first replacement idiom that came to my mind was "look blaster bolts at" someone, but I don't know if that's a good enough replacement.

that thread is enver among the most busy ones. Answers can take days here. Enthusiasm makes time go slow, but sooner or later answers will come. if youre really in a hurry about anyhting, pm sopmebody. You are more likely to get an quick answer. (Be it only, I'm the wrong person ask, try UserX)

And I repeat myself, there's a thread for everythign in Resource, just use the Index. For 'Looking daggers', you might wnat the Earth expressions in SW thread. Anyway, my first thought was why change it? They certainly do have daggers in the GFFA.


The profanities should be linked in Help, FAQ or in Comms. (Administration -> Communications -> Index)
Since the boards are labelled 'family friendly' tehre is also a limit on what you can do/show in Fanfic. A list of thsoe and examples can be found in Resource Index, too. Forgot the thread title, probably soemthign about guidlines.
