I'm confused. Why are folks reacting to this non-linear show as if it's linear? [face_thinking]

Still looking forward to seeing more of Kelnacca in future episodes. There's no way we don't get a fight out of him at some point. I'd also like to see (maybe not "see" because that'd be sad, but at least learn more about) his final moments; whether he surrendered or resisted, or understood, or what. Seeing his corpse just sitting there like that was unsettling, to say the least. Did he accept his fate as penance?

What if it was Kelnacca who had been possessed by the witches and attacked the jedi or killed the witches to frame the jedi? And that's why he was fighting with Torbin? That would explain all the signs/drawings in his lair with the Ascension symbol and the other withery things, his mind never recovered fully and he is still somehow connected to the witches? Or was secretly working with the Sith ( one of the mothers) because still mind controlled and therefore did not react and there were no signs of struggle?

Quite the shocker that he was dispensed with so quickly, but that essentially aligns with Indara and Torbin's brief present day appearances as well. I remain really intrigued by what role he played in the events on Brendok.

That makes a lot more sense. I actually think it's both of them
I think Koril and those on her side control Torbin and Kelnacca's mind and turn them against each other and they fight each other leading to Torbin's scar. Indara just coolly takes out the witches at the moment Sol is trying to rescue Osha.

This explains why Sol doesn't harbor guilt like the others did. I do think Indara will prove to be cold and ruthless - but maybe not wrong. And Koril and the others perhaps forced her to attack (fitting the conversation she had with Mae). I do think that the Mother Aniseya may try to stop Koril and gets killed for trying - possibly by the possessed Jedi or possibly by Indara trying to "sever the thread". But I see plenty of ways for Sol to be out of the room searching for Osha and Mae while the other three kill the witches.

But that would rob the story of any thematic/ moral substance. If it all happened because of mind control, then no one is to blame but the mind controllers. And then...so what?

Exactly. Same reason I thoroughly dislike all the mind-wipes and mind-control in Revan's story. Makes for a really uninteresting character ultimately.

I assume Kelnacca is studying the Coven's symbols because he wanted to understand their religion better. Headland says that the Coven is a more benevolent version of the Nightsisters, so Kel may have learned this and perhaps even began to believe in their way of viewing the Force, at least to come extent.

Perhaps it brought him peace to engage in the Coven's cultural practices.

Kalnacca is the tool that Sith Smiles is planning to use to frame as the killer of this group of Jedi. Osha (or mar pretending to be Osha) is gonna be sent to the Jedi to tell a lie that Kalnacca killed the whole party. And the symbols are going to be what drove him crazy. Or I think this or a similar plot with Sol as the patzy are in play.

Can't believe I'm logging in well over twenty-four hours after Star Wars blessed us with our first ever live-action Wookiee lightsaber duel, only to find this thread relegated to the second page, completely devoid of anybody freakin' out about the undeniable awesomenosity of the whole scene.

The fact that few people are freaking out about its undeniable awesomeness (and it IS undeniable) is, however, a strong indictment on the episode, I’m afraid. Too many people disliked everything else that the episode was doing to appreciate this great scene.

I am surprised that "madclaw" concept from the EU was not referenced to enhance Kelnacca's sense of guilt, since he used his claws (even though while being under control) to wound Torbin.

Definitely a great scene. I appreciated it more on second viewing.

With regards Kelnacca being taken over by Koril or the witches (which I imagine is a terrifying experience)...

If Torbin became overwhelmed by a combination of witchy desire and an amplification of his loneliness, what was Kelnacca convinced to "kneel" for?

I wonder if the witches/Koril amplified his desire to logically solve mysteries and fix things by giving him the mystery of the witches' "magic" to try and explain anyway, which of course he can't. Koril overwhelms him with his inability to solve this, and he becomes obsessive and withdrawn, and therefore keeps drawing the symbols on the walls, isolating himself from everyone else.

Anyway, some love for Kelnacca from me.

I've seen almost universal praise of this scene from reactors and critics, but people are also a bit whiney about it for two reasons: 1) They wanted it earlier; 2) they wanted to see Kelnacca fighting as a hero.

Often SW fans have legit critiques of SW shows, but I find the two above to be pretty dumb.

I understand why him being “possessed” takes away from it. He’s essentially a non-autonomous (and hairy) robot.

Personally, on a character level, I agree with you, but with respect to all the different kinds of talent involved in both, I'd imagine Gungi's action sequences are far easier to animate than Kelnacca's were to perform "for real" and the spectacle really paid off.

Would absolutely love that to be the case! Normally I'd be worried that, if we even get an explanation, it'd be a simple "we tapped into his primal animalistic nature and set it free" or something equally disappointing, but your theory works so well, and would smash that stereotype. Not that The Acolyte is hell-bent on explaining every detail of its story anyway, but the heck with it, I'm adopting that as my headcanon until I'm shown otherwise.

I'm forced to agree. Not least because, by being a corrupted hero, Kelnacca represents a new and interesting dynamic in Wookiee characterisation, adding to a pure hero (Chewie), a Jedi youth (Gungi), and a morally flexible killing machine whose allegiance can be purchased (Krrsantan).

Now we just need a Wookiee Sith and we'll have the whole set. [face_worried] [face_laugh]

I can understand why people want more heroic Wookie Jedi characters, but they should practice patience. Not every character needs to be exactly what we want. Eventually in time they'll probably do what you want.

And if not, deal with it. Consumerism has made consumers insufferable. Write your own fanfic if you need a specific character they're not doing.
